CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Oregon State scored the game's first 18 points and cruised to a 66-49 win over Idaho in non-league men's basketball Wednesday night at Gill Coliseum. Deaundra Tanner and Josh Steinthal led the Beavers (4-1 overall) with 14 points each and Adam Masten added 10.
Gordon Scott had 15 points to pace Idaho (1-4) and Clifford Gray scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds.
OSU held Idaho scoreless for almost nine minutes to start the game, going in front 18-0 on Steinthal's 3-pointer with 13:28 to play in the first half. During that stretch, the Beavers got six points each from Masten and Clifton Jones.
It was the second time this season that Oregon State had put together a long run of points to start a game. The Beavers led South Carolina State 25-0 en route to a 92-57 win on Nov. 26.
The Vandals didn't get on the board until Devon Ford hit a jumper with 11:06 to go in the half. Idaho had started the game 0-for-8 on field goal attempts and turned the ball over five times before scoring.
Oregon State stretched the lead to 24-2 on Ramunas Petraitis' 18-footer with 7:31 left in the half. OSU led 34-14 at halftime, with Idaho shooting just 4-for-19 from the field at intermission, including 0-for-6 on 3-pointers.
The Vandals had a chance to get back in the game early in the second half. They outscored Oregon State 11-5 to open the half, with Gray scoring six of those and his layin with 14:58 to go drew Idaho within 39-25.
Idaho than had two possessions with the margin still at 14 points, but the Vandals turned the ball over without getting off a shot both times. A jumper by Petraitis and a 3-pointer by Tanner pushed OSU's lead back to 44-25 with 12:50 to go.
OSU played its fifth straight game without freshman forward Brian Jackson, who is out with a bruised right knee. The Beavers were also missing senior forward Iyan Walker, who dislocated his kneecap against Clemson on Sunday and will be out indefinitely.
Oregon State plays at Colorado State on Saturday, while Idaho will play Montana on Sunday in Nampa, Idaho.
