Smiley Signs with Beavers
May 06, 2026 | Men's Basketball
CORVALLIS – Guard Legend Smiley has signed with the Oregon State men's basketball team, head coach Justin Joyner announced Wednesday.
Smiley will join the Beavers as a sophomore after spending his first collegiate season at San Francisco.
Legend Smiley
Guard
6-foot-5
Sophomore
Seattle, Wash.
Smiley spent his freshman season at San Francisco, where he quickly established himself as one of the premier 3-point shooters in the WCC. The guard appeared in 33 games for the Dons, making 14 starts, and averaged 8.1 points per game while shooting 42 percent from 3-point range. Smiley scored in double-figures 14 times during the 2025-26 campaign, including three games with a career-high 18 points.
"Legend is exactly the type of player we want representing Oregon State University basketball," Joyner said. "He's a Pacific Northwest guy who understands the toughness, competitiveness, and pride that come with playing in this region. Coming off a really strong year at University of San Francisco, he's proven himself against high-level competition and brings that experience into our program.
"What stands out immediately is his ability to shoot the basketball—he spaces the floor at an elite level and makes defenses pay. But beyond that, I have a great deal of trust in him as a decision-maker. He plays the game the right way, he's poised, and he consistently makes winning plays. He's also incredibly versatile on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he can impact the game in multiple roles, and defensively, he has the tools and mindset to guard different positions and compete at a high level. We're excited about what Legend brings to our team and the way he fits into how we want to play."
Smiley made a career-high six 3-pointers against Oregon State in the WCC Tournament, going 6-for-8 from beyond the arc in that contest. The guard spent his senior year of high school at Link Academy in Branson, Mo., guiding his team to the EYBL Scholastic Tournament Championship. He spent his first three high school seasons at Garfield High School in Seattle, Wash., helping the team win the 3A state title as a sophomore on his way to Tournament MVP honors.
