Mission Statement
The Oregon State University Sports Medicine Department is dedicated to promoting comprehensive health care for every OSU student-athlete to promote physical and mental wellbeing. A dedicated, compassionate, and enthusiastic team of professionals utilize a multi-disciplinary approach to skillfully combine evidence-based practice and emerging technologies to ensure each student athlete has the opportunity to compete in their sport safely and at the highest level possible. We create an environment that is welcoming and supportive for all student athletes while adhering to the professional standards set forth by Oregon State University, the NATA and within the guidelines of the NCAA and Pac-12 conference.

Athletic Trainers
- Deb Graff
Deb Graff is in her 17th season as the athletic trainer for the OSU gymnastics program. During her time at OSU, she also has worked with several other sports, including volleyball, swimming and men's and women's rowing. Deb joined the Oregon State athletic training staff after working a year and a half as an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Miami (FL), where she worked with women's basketball, men's track and tennis. A graduate of Western Washington University, Deb received a Bachelor's of the Arts degree in Exercise Science in 1991. She worked as a student athletic trainer while in school and became certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association in 1991. From there, she attended graduate school at Syracuse University where she earned a Master's degree in Exercise Science in 1993. As a graduate assistant trainer at Syracuse, Deb was the athletic trainer for volleyball and field hockey. A native of Battle Ground, Wash., Deb graduated from Battle Ground High School where she was a member of the golf and basketball teams. Deb and her husband, Barney, have two sons, Mitchell and Jake. - Tom Fregoso
Tom Fregoso is in his ninth year as an athletic trainer at Oregon State University and his sixth season working with the men's basketball team. As part of his duties, he is in charge of all care and treatment of the men's basketball team and oversees the graduate assistant athletic trainers working with the men's and women's soccer teams. Before he took the position at Oregon State, Fregoso served as the Head of Athletic Training at the University of Portland from 1984 to 2003 and as an Assistant Athletic Trainer working with the football program at the University of Utah. He also currently serves a Staff Athletic Trainer for the United States Soccer Federation and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). Fregoso received his Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training from Utah in 1981 and earned his Master's in Sports Psychology from Portland in 1991. Fregoso and his wife, Susie, have two sons, Matt and Jake. - Annie McCauley-Toth
Annie McCauley-Toth is in the sixth season of her second `go-round' at Oregon State. McCauley-Toth joined the Beavers' volleyball program as the team's athletic trainer in September 2005. McCauley-Toth graduated from Oregon State in 2000 with a Bachelor's of Science in Exercise and Sport Science with an emphasis in athletic training. She then received her Master's of Science in Exercise and Movement Science with an emphasis in athletic training from the University of Oregon in 2002. She worked as a student athletic trainer while at Oregon State dealing with football. During her time at the University of Oregon, she worked as the head athletic trainer at Thurston High School in Springfield and became certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association in 2000. Prior to her return to Oregon State, McCauley-Toth spent three years as the head athletic trainer at Basha High School in Chandler, Ariz. A native of Bend, Ore., McCauley-Toth lettered in volleyball and downhill skiing at Mountain View High School. McCauley-Toth is married to former Oregon State baseball athletic trainer, Matt Toth. Matt is currently an athletic trainer with the Seattle Mariners organization. Matt and Annie became first-time parents with their baby, Alex. - Heather Elkinton
Heather Elkinton is in her 5th season as the athletic trainer for the OSU softball and football programs. Heather joined the Oregon State athletic training staff after working for 2 years as an assistant athletic trainer at Montana State University, where she worked with the women's basketball, volleyball and ski teams. A graduate of Oregon State University, Heather received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training in 2004. She worked as a student athletic trainer while in school and became certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association in 2004. Heather attended graduate school at the University of Oregon where she earned a Master's degree in Sports Medicine in 2006. As a graduate assistant trainer at the University of Oregon, Heather served as the athletic trainer for volleyball and football. A native of Sweet Home, Oregon, Heather is married to Zeb Elkinton. The couple lives in Corvallis. - Jason Lieuw
Jason Lieuw is in his third year as an athletic trainer at Oregon State University. As part of his duties, he is in charge of all care and treatment of the women's Basketball team and oversees the graduate assistant athletic trainer working with the men's and women's Rowing teams. Jason joined the Oregon State Athletic Training Staff after stints as an athletic trainer with the University of the Pacific, Stanford University, and George Washington University working with their various collegiate teams. He also spent time as a minor league athletic trainer in the Arizona Diamondback Organization. Jason is a 1997 graduate of the University of the Pacific where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sports Science working with the various collegiate teams. Also in 1997, Jason earned his Athletic Training Certification from the National Athletic Trainers Board of Certification. He then continued his higher education earning his Masters of Science in Exercise Sciences at the University of Iowa in 2000 where he worked with the Men's and Women's Basketball teams. A native of Millbrae, CA, Jason is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association as well as the Collegiate Athletic Trainers Society. He currently resides in Corvallis, OR - Holly Fisher
Holly Fisher is in her third year as an athletic trainer with Women's Cross Country and Track. Before OSU, Fisher worked with the U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program, Western Oregon University, and Linn Benton Community College. She was also a graduate assistant in the athletic training department at Utah. Fisher received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Oregon State in 2006. She finished her Master of Science degree at the University of Utah in Exercise Physiology in 2008. - Josh Sims
- Mitch Swee
Mitch Swee is in his third year as an athletic trainer with the Oregon State Athletics Department, working with wrestling and football. He came to Oregon State as a graduate assistant in June 2008 after graduating from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor of science in athletic training. Swee, a native of Omaha, Neb., was promoted to a full-time position prior to the start of the 2010-11 academic year. He recently married the former Candice Hansen, a former GA at Oregon State. - Josh Therrien
Josh Therrien is in his third year as an athletic trainer with the Oregon State baseball team. He also works with the Oregon State football team. This past summer, he assisted with athletic training during tryouts for USA Baseball's 18U National Team in North Carolina and is slated to work again for the team in 2012. Therrien came to Oregon State from Washington State, where he worked with the football and baseball teams while earning his Bachelor of Science in kinesiology in 2007. He also holds a Masters in exercise science from Oregon State in 2010. He is NATA-BOC certified and is also certified by the American Red Cross as a professional rescuer. He and his wife, the former Jillian Brown, were married in 2010 and the couple lives in Albany. Therrien is a native of Pullman, Wash. - Ariko Iso
Ariko Iso joined the Oregon State staff in June of 2011 as the head football athletic trainer after spending nine years on the staff of the Pittsburgh Steelers. She was the only female athletic trainer in the NFL. Iso graduated from Oregon State with a bachelor's of science degree in health and human performance in 1993 and earned a master's of art in physical education from San Jose State University in 1995. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society. The Tokyo native is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association. Prior to accepting the position with the Steelers, Iso spent five years as the associate athletic trainer for Portland State University, where she served as the head football trainer. Her collegiate career also includes serving as the assistant athletic trainer at Foothill College in California for nearly three years. In addition to her collegiate experience, Iso has served as the head trainer at the 2006 World 21 and Under Track Championships, the 2001 World Cross Country Championships, the 1998 Yokohama International Ekiden and the 1996 East-West Shrine Football Game. She has also worked at the Nike World Master Games, U.S. Mobil Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and at the 1994 World Cup Soccer tournament.

- Dr. Doug Aukerman
Dr. Doug Aukerman joined the Oregon State University athletic staff in January of 2012 as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine. He manages, on a day-to-day basis, the sports medicine program for all of OSU's intercollegiate athletics sports teams. Aukerman's focus is to ensure that OSU's student-athletes receive the best care possible in all aspects of their athletic training, including injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. His goals are to institute new procedures and methodologies into practice in the OSU sports medicine program, monitor medical expenditures and record keeping, and to coordinate the services of team physicians and consultants. He also facilitates the flow of information between physicians and consultants with head coaches, develops and enhances the technical expertise of the medical staff, and identifies highly trained new staff as the need requires. In addition to his OSU duties, Aukerman is a sports medicine physician employed at Samaritan Health Systems. Aukerman came to Corvallis after serving as a team physician at Penn State Hersey Medical Center in the Department of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine starting in 2003. While with the Nittany Lions he worked closely with both the men's basketball and football programs in addition to many of the other teams. He held the positions of Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician, Team Physician and Associate Professor as part of Penn State's sports medicine unit, which services all 29 sports teams as well as area high schools and the general public. He also developed and was the fellowship director of the Penn State Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship program, which provides advanced training for physicians. Aukerman also maintained a clinical sports medicine practice in State College with the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Prior to coming to Penn State, Aukerman served as the team physician for varsity athletics at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. He earned his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University, where he was a student athletic trainer for the football and men's basketball teams. Aukerman went on to attend medical school at the West Virginia School of Medicine, completing his medical degree in 1998. He completed his residency in family medicine at West Virginia University Hospitals in 2001 and then attended Wake Forest University for fellowship training in sports medicine in 2002. An avid runner, Aukerman has completed several marathons, half marathons and numerous road races, including the Boston Marathon. He also serves as the medical review officer for NASCAR's drug-testing program. Aukerman's wife, Melissa, is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a Clinical Exercise Specialist and was the head coach for State College Area High School's girls' lacrosse team. The couple have a young daughter, Adele. - Dr. Craig Graham

Dr. Pennington, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, has advanced training in sports medicine and complex shoulder and knee surgery. He earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in microbiology and biochemistry from Brigham Young University in Utah. He completed medical school at Western University of Health Sciences, an orthopedic surgery residency at Michigan State University, and fellowship training in sports medicine at the University of Arizona. During his sports fellowship, he provided care for injured athletes from the University of Arizona, the Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies, Pima College and Tucson-area high schools. Dr. Pennington has also authored several articles concerning partial and total knee replacement. Dr. Pennington specializes in arthroscopic treatment of complex shoulder and knee injuries, shoulder and knee replacements, and caring for athletes of all ages.Medical Education and Training: Bachelor's degree: Brigham Young University
