SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) - Brandon Beeson led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points and also had 13 rebounds Saturday night as Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo beat Oregon State 72-68, the Mustangs' first win over a Pacific-10 Conference school in 25 years.
Cal Poly, at home against a Pac-10 school for the first time, last beat a team from that conference in 1976, a 79-61 victory over Stanford.
The Mustangs are 3-17 all-time against the Pac-10, and Saturday night's game was their first against Oregon State.
David Henry and Varnie Dennis had 16 points each for Cal Poly (5-2), which ended a four-game win streak by the Beavers (5-3). Jason Allen scored 12 points and had three steals for the Mustangs.
Philip Ricci led the Beavers with 23 points and 10 rebounds and Adam Masten had a career-high 19 points.
Cal Poly led 34-31 at halftime, but Oregon State took its first lead of the game at 42-41 on Masten's putback with 15:40 remaining. Shortly later, the Mustangs moved back in front to stay, with Jered Patterson's jumper capping an 8-2 run for a 53-50 lead with 11 minutes remaining.
Dennis made two free throws to put Cal Poly up 64-57 with 6:28 to play, and Oregon State got no closer than three points the rest of the way.
The Beavers shot 48 percent (24-of-50) from the floor to 40.3 percent (25-65) by the Mustangs, but Cal Poly held a 43-31 edge in rebounds.
