Oregon State vs. Towson
November 26, 2011
Towson Center Arena
Towson, Md.
Head Coach Craig Robinson
"Whenever you play on the road, it's nice to get a win especially when you've had a long road trip. This is the 10th day for us and I thought we handled Towson's early start. They got off to a good start and we handled ourselves and sort of calmed down and got back to our usual way of playing. I was very pleased to see that we didn't get flustered with that flurry of activity. I know how it is when a Pac-12 team comes to a place like this; it's a big game. Then you have on top of it my relatives are here so it makes it even bigger. We needed an environment like this with a true road game."
On the turning point in the first half...
"I'd have to look at the tape, but we were allowing them to just bring the ball up and run their stuff. A little bit past the 12-minute timeout, we just came out and played our normal pressure defense and we forced some turnovers, got some easy baskets and then we started making some threes. We missed our first three or four three-pointers where we were one for four or five. We made a couple that gave us a little bit of room and took it to eight and then that puts more pressure on the other team. Then their shots become harder. The second thing is they absolutely killed us on the boards in the first half and we shored it up in that little bit of space there. So I think those two things were key."
On if there's extra pressure when the President is at the game...
"Oh absolutely. But that's what we need to prepare for our conference. We play in a conference that has really good fans, good venues, and a lot of pressure. So we like to get a little taste of it by playing in tournaments like we did in the TicketCity Legends Classic and playing an away game like this where we know it's a good fan followed team and it's going to be full when the President and First Lady are here."
Junior guard Jared Cunningham
On playing in front of President Obama...
"This is my third time doing it. It's always a great feeling to have the President come and watch the game. The other team is always going to play their hardest because it's on their home court. We did a good job tonight. I'm proud of the team for fighting hard and we got the win."
