Andy Foltz heads into his second season as novice coach for the Oregon State women's rowing team. During his first year working with the OSU novices, Foltz directed his charges to wins at the University of Victoria and at Gonzaga as well as a win over Oklahoma at the Pac-12 Invitational.
Prior to joining the Oregon State program, Foltz spent two seasons coaching the novices at Minnesota. While with the Gophers, he led the novices to a 2012 fourth place finish at the San Diego Crew Classic, the highest finish of any crews from east of California, including a win in heat racing. His novice crews notched a total of five wins in 2011-12 and during his time at Minnesota he had three freshmen selected to the USRowing Freshman Camp.
Foltz served as a volunteer coach and as a graduate assistant at Washington prior to his position at UM. As a volunteer with the Huskies, Foltz assisted with novice coaching where he had two undefeated seasons and a pair of Pac-10 Championship titles in the Novice 8. In addition, Foltz assisted with recruiting and coaches’ clinics at UW.
From 2007-08 Foltz was also the assistant junior girls coach with the Sammamish Rowing Association in Washington. During that time, he coached the Varsity Lightweight 8, 4+ and 2x to national championship qualifications as well as coaching multiple boats to silver medals at the USRowing NW Regional Championships.
In the summer of 2012 Foltz shadowed the Men's U23 Coaches as they selected the 8+ for the World Championships.
Originally hailing from Sumner, Wash., Foltz graduated from Western Washington in 2007 with an undergraduate degree in exercise and sport science with a sport psychology specialization. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in intercollegiate athletic leadership from Washington in 2009.
