Beavers Battle Ranked Foes
April 07, 2024 | Men's Rowing
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – Oregon State men's rowing battled two top-10 foes this weekend at Redwood Shores, competing but falling to Wisconsin, Syracuse and La Salle.
"This is a very hard weekend. We raced some of the best teams out there. The guys improved every piece but fell short. It's tough. It's all about getting faster and that's what we are doing. How do we do that? We push harder from now to the end of the season," head coach Gabe Winkler said. "Also: shout out to the boats going 6 for 6 in the races at the Covered bridge regatta. Won the freshman 4+ and the varsity 4+"
The 17th-ranked Beavs took on the no. 10 Badgers, no. 3 Orange and (RV) Explorers on the weekend while the 3V boat also battled Cal's 5V and 3V teams.
The 3V team picked up OSU's lone win on the weekend, defeating Cal's 5V by 9 seconds.
Oregon State also got encouraging results from the Varsity 8 on Sunday, coming within three seconds of knocking off Wisconsin. The 2V8 and 3V8 came even closer to beating the Badgers, falling short by less than two seconds in the day's final two races.
"We gave everything we had but came up short in some close races. Our best race is yet to come as we look to continue building speed and fine-tuning the lineup deeper into the season," team captain Tristin Vanderlind said.
