Beavers Post Second Clean Sheet in Road Draw at Saint Mary’s
October 05, 2024 | Women's Soccer
MORAGA, Calif. – Mere days after a convincing 2-1 victory over Pacific, Oregon State women's soccer was back in action on Saturday, posting the team's second clean sheet of the season in a 0-0 draw against St. Mary's.
The Beavers (4-6-1, 2-0-1 WCC) were led by a tremendous performance from goalkeeper Mya Sanchez, who tied a career high with seven saves against the Gaels. Across 11 games this season, Sanchez has made 58 saves and posted a save percentage of 75.3, with save totals of six or more in eight games.
McKenna Martinez's two shots led the Beavers, while she, Carly Carraher and Claire Jones all recorded a shot on goal. Jones nearly found the back of the net in the 33rd minute with an effort from long range, but it was punched out for a corner kick.
Rin Choi came in off the bench for the Beavers, playing 28 total minutes in her fifth appearance this season, but it was Megin Turi's 24 minutes of action that led Oregon State's bench unit; seven members of the starting eleven went all 90 minutes.
Oregon State's defense drew six offside calls from the Gaels while holding them without a second half shot on target until the 79th minute.
The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, playing host to San Francisco at Paul Lorenz Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
