Beavers Dominate in 2-0 Victory
October 09, 2024 | Women's Soccer
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Make. It. Five.
One goal and assist from Valerie Tobias and McKenna Martinez's third score of the season led the way for Oregon State women's soccer, who defeated the San Francisco Dons, 2-0, at Paul Lorenz Field on Wednesday.
The victory extends OSU's unbeaten streak to five games, which includes four wins and two clean sheets.
Tobias set a new career-high for points in a single game, which started with a deflected San Francisco clearance with just 13 seconds remaining in the first half, notching her second goal of the season and putting the Beavers ahead at half. 23 minutes into the second half, it was the Fillmore, Calif., native who fed OSU's in-form number nine.
For Martinez, the 58th minute goal was her second in the last three games and puts her in a tie with Jenna Leavitt (1990-94) for third on the program's all-time goalscoring list. With three goals this season, along with a pair of assists, Martinez's eight points leads the team.
Mya Sanchez, the reigning conference Defensive Player of the Week, made three saves in her second-consecutive clean sheet, which was the team's third this season.
Offensively, Oregon State dominated, holding 61% of possession while outshooting the Dons 20-9 (7-3 on target) and recording a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks. The shot differential marked the first time this season that Oregon State has out-shot an opponent, despite scoring two or more goals in four different wins.
Aidan Brown, Rin Choi, Cassi James and Megin Turi all came in off the bench for the Beavers, who had five outfield players go the full 90 minutes.
Tobias, Martinez, Sanchez and company return to action on Saturday, hitting the road to face San Diego. Kickoff against the Torreros is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
