SCOUTING THE GAELS:
Saint Mary's is 4-5-1 and entering Saturday's game with momentum, defeating LMU 3-1 in the last game. Junior Tessa Salvestrin has been a huge part of the Gaels' offense, tallying six goals and two assists on her way to a team-leading 14 points, also finishing that win over LMU with one goal and one assist. The St. Mary's defense has held opponents to just 10.7 shots per game and offensively has found success in drawing penalties, entering Saturday's game a perfect 3-3 from the penalty spot.
QUICK STRIKE:
Against Pacific on Wednesday, a pair of quick goals were key to the Beaver attack, scoring less than two minutes into each half off the boot of Claire Jones and McKenna Martinez. Jones' goal, scored 91 seconds into the game, set a new program record for quickest goal ever scored by a Beaver and second quickest the team has ever found the net, as the 1993 season saw a San Diego State own-goal just 60 seconds in put the Beavers ahead.
BACK OF THE NET:
A sophomore from Ridgefield, Wash., Jones' second-minute strike was the first goal in her collegiate career and put a ribbon on an impressive run of form, as she's tallied a point in three of her last four appearances, assisting on goals against South Dakota State and Gonzaga before scoring at Pacific.
FINDING FORM:
In defeating Pacific, Oregon State secured its third-consecutive victory, the team's longest win streak since starting the 2021 season with eight-straight wins to start the season.
The strong run of play comes at a perfect time for the Beavers, who have started out West Coast Conference action 2-0.
ONE-TOUCH:
The opening goal came after some nifty one-touch passing by Paola Figueroa and Valerie Tobias, who both were credited with their first assists in 2024. Figueroa, who was credited with an assist on the second goal to finish with two in the game, is now one of nine Beavers to record at least two points this season and is one of four players who have two or more assists.
DYNAMIC DUO:
Martinez's goal came after a nice ball through the Tiger backline by Katie Godden, who has recorded a point in four-consecutive games, which included an assist on Martinez's game-winner against Wyoming on Sept. 19. Godden currently leads the team in assists with three as Martinez took sole possession of the team lead for points with six thanks to two goals and two assists.
CREATING CHANCES:
The Beaver attack was ruthless on Wednesday, creating chance after chance to the tune of 12 shots on goal across 16 total attempts. The last time OSU finished with more than 10 shots on goal in a single match came on Aug. 18, 2022, against Eastern Washington; Carly Carraher set a new career-high for shots (five) and shots on goal (four).
GOALS:
Along with three-straight wins, Wednesday's win against Pacific marked the fourth-consecutive multi-goal game for the Beaver offense, who scored two apiece against South Dakota State and Wyoming before putting four in the net when hosting Gonzaga last weekend and two more against the Tigers.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME:
The Beavers' next game is back at Paul Lorenz Field, playing host to the Dons of San Francisco on Wednesday.
