SCOUTING THE TOREROS:
San Diego enters Saturday's match with an 0-3-1 record during conference play, 2-7-4 overall, and coming off a road loss on Wednesday night at Loyola Marymount. Lexi Zandonella-Arasa's two goals lead the Toreros, while both Tamia Graham and Maquena O'Callaghan have two assists. In net, Ilise Medrano leads the team in minutes played while making 59 saves and posting a save percentage of 73.8 across 13 total starts.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Mya Sanchez was named WCC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after a pair of strong performances. The junior shot-stopper played a huge role in OSU's 2-1 victory over Pacific last week, making six saves and posting a save percentage of 85.7 across 18 shots faced. Just three days later, she tied a career high with seven saves, leading the team to its second clean sheet of the season in a scoreless draw against St. Mary's.
She followed those performances up with her second-consecutive clean sheet on Wednesday, stopping three shots against San Francisco and increasing her season save percentage to 76.2, which ranks fourth in the conference.
DOMINATION:
OSU dominated the Dons of San Francisco in a 2-0 victory at Paul Lorenz Field, maintaining 61% of possession and outshooting the visitors 20-9 (7-3 SOG), also recording a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Despite claiming the team's fifth victory of the season and fifth multi-goal offensive output, Wednesday's advantage in shots marked the first time this season that OSU has out-shot an opponent.
CAREER DAY:
Valerie Tobias, now in her fifth season at OSU, entered Wednesday's game against USF with four goals and five assists in her career, good for 13 total points. Against the Dons, she set a new single game career high for points, scoring the Beavers' opening goal and assisting on the second goal to cap her standout performance. She finished with three shots across 90 minutes played and now ranks second on the team in total points this season.
IN FORM:
McKenna Martinez's 58th minute goal was her third this season and second in the last three games for the Richland, Wash., native, who has done nothing but score goals for the Beavers.
Now in her fourth season at OSU, Wednesday's goal put her in a tie with Jenna Leavitt (1990-94) for third on the program's all-time goalscoring list with 31. Second place, held by Val Williams (1994-95) is 34.
SQUEAKY CLEAN:
In holding the Dons scoreless on Wednesday, OSU posted its second-consecutive shutout, marking the first time this season that the Beavers have kept a clean sheet in back-to-back games. The pair of strong defensive outings dropped OSU's goals allowed average this season to 1.58 per game.
INCHES AWAY:
Though the Beavers on Wednesday finished with multiple goals for the fourth time in the last five games, the two-goal performance could very well have been upwards of four or five if not for the woodwork. Martinez hit the post twice in the first 11 minutes of action, while Katie Godden had an impressive effort from range careen off the crossbar in the 39th minute; Claire Jones in the 69th minute also had a shot go off the crossbar, denying her of goal number two this season.
In total, OSU had four shots hit the post in a game where the team finished with seven shots on goal.
WHAT'S NEXT:
After a week off, Oregon State begins a three-game homestand, hosting Loyola Marymount (Oct. 23, 7 p.m.), Pepperdine (Oct. 26, 12 p.m.) and Santa Clara (Nov. 2, 1 p.m.).
