
Beavers Continue Road Stretch at Utah and Colorado

THE GAMES: Oregon State continues the away conference stretch in Salt Lake City and Boulder this weekend taking on Utah (Oct. 3 @ 6 p.m.) and Colorado (Oct. 6 @ 1 p.m.).

HISTORY WITH UTES: Thursday's match marks the 11th time the Beavers and Utes have met on the pitch. Utah maitains the lead in the series with six wins. OSU last won in Salt Lake City on Oct. 10, 2010 defeating the Utes 1-0.
HISTORY WITH BUFFALOES: Sunday's game with be the ninth meeting between Oregon State and Colorado in Pac-12 play on the pitch. The Buffaloes maintain the lead in the series with five wins. OSU last won in Boulder on Oct. 13, 2012 defeating the Buffaloes 2-0.
Quick Hitters:
- Oregon State returns seven starters and 13 letterwinners from the 2018 squad.
- Nine Beavers have scored at least one goal this season (Weinert - 7, McReynolds - 4, Schwartz - 3, Fried and Studer - 2, Conrad, Fonsen, Leblic and Lemmond - 1)
- Freshman Brianna McReynolds earned Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for her performance at Houston and Rice on Sept. 17.
- Sophomore Sydney Studer leads OSU with 827 minutes played followed closely by redshirt freshman Madison Ellsworth and sophomore Bridgette Skiba each clocking 814.
- As a team, OSU is tied for No. 12 in the Nation in win/loss percentage (.889).
- Oregon State is still receiving votes in the United Coaches Association Poll.
Offensive Mindset:
- Oregon State has outscored opponents 22-5 this season.
- The Beavers have scored three goals in the first nine minutes of the match this season - 4:31 vs. PSU, 6:48 vs. SMC and 8:55 at Houston
- OSU has recorded 148 shots this season through eight games - in 2018 OSU only recorded 131 shots on the season.
- Through eight games, OSU has taken 50 corner kicks - in 2018, OSU only recorded 28 on the season.
- The Beavers have 20 assist this season coming from 12 players compared to last season only having one total assist.
- Redshirt sophomore McKenzie Weinert currently sits sixth in the Pac-12 for total goals (7) and points (16). She is tied for No. 31 in the Nation for goals per game (.780) and tied for No. 39 for total goals.
- Freshman Brianna McReynolds leads the team and is ninth in the Pac-12 for assists this season with four. She also sits at No. 11 in the Pac-12 Â for points with 12.
- OSU currently holds spots in the top-50 in the Nation in the following categories: Assists per game (T-No.22 - 2.22), points per game (No. 23 - 7.11), scoring offense (T-No. 28 - 2.44), shots per game (No. 36 - 16.44), total assists (No. 42 - 20) and total points (T-No. 49 - 64).
Dominating Defense:
- Oregon State has started the same back unit for the first nine games (Ellsworth, Fonsen, Fried, Salveter and Studer) with sophomore Bridgette Skiba in goal.
- The back unit has allowed only 90 shots this season (10 per game) and five goals to be scored.Â
- As a whole, OSU has posted five clean sheets with Skiba recording four-solo shutouts (tied for 12th in OSU season history).
- The Beavers recorded four-consecutive shutouts (SMC, UNM, UCD and Houston) for the first time since 2007.
- Skiba currently sits second in the Pac-12 for shutouts and fourth in the following categories: goals allowed, goals-allowed average and saves.
- As a defensive unit, Oregon State has only allowed opponents to take 30 corner kicks. Through the first three games, OSU only allowed two combined.
- OSU sits second in the Pac-12 for fewest goals allowed (5).
- The Beavers defense have added to the offensive stance with Fried, Studer and Fonsen each scoring at least one goal. Dayton, Fonsen, Fried and Salveter have also each recorded an assist on the season.
New Era Under Kagan:
- 2019 marks the first season for head coach Matt Kagan who joins the Beavers after spending the prior two years as the associate head coach at Mississippi State.
- During his first season at MSU, the Bulldogs posted the best record the program had had in 16 years.
- Kagan has been a member of nine coaching staffs that have led teams to the NCAA Tournament - three of those teams have advanced to the Sweet 16.
- Kagan started his professional career in 2004 at Assumption College in Massachusetts before taking the reigns of Worcester State from 2005-08.
The Staff:
- Kagan brings in three distinguished coaches to join his staff.
- Jenny Ruiz-Williams was a four-year letterwinner at UNLV and a two-time All-Mountain West Selection while helping the program to their first ever NCAA appearance.
- Ruiz-Williams was a member of the Mexican National Team when they won bronze at the Pan American Games in 2003, 2011 and 2015. Ruiz-Williams scored the game-winning goal in the bronze-medal game in 2011 against Columbia.
- Ruiz-Williams joined the Seattle Reign FC in 2013 before competing in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup with Mexico.
- Nick Stirrett joins the Beavers staff working primarily with the goalkeepers after spending the last three seasons at the University of Illinois where he helped the Illini finish fifth in the Big Ten.
- Prior to his time at Illinois, Stirrett helped lead the Penn State Nittany Lions to become the 2015 NCAA National Champions.
- Stirrett also spent two seasons as the head men's coach at the University of Mount Union.
- Tiff Crooks joins the staff as the Director of Operations after spending the last 12 seasons as the head coach at Case Western Reserve University.
- Crooks is the winningest coach in CWRU program history.
Newcomers:
- The Beavers welcome nine newcomers to the 2019 roster, seven freshman and two transfers.
- Five newcomers have combined for 24 of OSU's 64 points to date (McReynolds - 12, Schwartz - 7, Conrad and Galceran - 2 and Salveter - 1).
Last Week vs. Washington State:Â
- Oregon State dropped the first Pac-12 game of the season to the Cougars, 2-1.
- McKenzie Weinert got things rolling for the Beavers in the 29th minute following a long pass from Sydney Studer that allowed Weinert to move past two WSU defenders and the keeper giving OSU the early lead.
- WSU tied things in the 67th minute off a penalty shot before taking the lead in the 72nd minute.
- The Cougars outshot the Beavers, 21-8. Bridgette Skiba recorded five saves.

- Prior to his time at Illinois, Stirrett helped lead the Penn State Nittany Lions to become the 2015 NCAA National Champions.
- Stirrett also spent two seasons as the head men's coach at the University of Mount Union.
- Tiff Crooks joins the staff as the Director of Operations after spending the last 12 seasons as the head coach at Case Western Reserve University.
- Crooks is the winningest coach in CWRU program history.
