Beavers Win 10th Straight In Home Opener
March 12, 2016 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Drew Rasmussen struck out a career-best 12 and Logan Ice and Kyle Nobach each homered as the fourth-ranked Oregon State baseball team opened its home schedule with a ss-ss win over San Francisco at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Rasmussen surpassed his previous career high of 10 in last season's perfect game, and the sophomore scattered a run and two hits in six innings to improve to 3-0 this season.
Ice, meanwhile, was a single shy of becoming the first Oregon State player to hit for the cycle in five years. The junior doubled in the first, tripled in the sixth and homered in the seventh. Over his last three games, he's 9-for-10 with two doubles, two triples, three home runs and eight runs batted in.
Nobach hit a two-run home run during the Beavers' four-run sixth inning, and singled in the second and seventh innings. He, along with Ice, helped pace the Beavers' (11-1 overall) 14-hit attack, which pushed the team's batting average to .347 from .343.
Nick Madrigal and Christian Donahue each recorded two hits in the win as the Beavers won their 10th straight. OSU now has at least one 10-game win streak in each of the last four seasons.
San Francisco (2-13) starter Anthony Shew worked 5 2/3 innings, allowing 11 hits and seven runs. The right-hander dropped to 0-2 on the year.
The Beavers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two thanks to a sacrifice fly in the first by KJ Harrison, then RBIs by Donahue and Steven Kwan in the second. Donahue's came via a triple, the first of three on the night for the Beavers, who now have a Pac-12 Conference leading 12.
The teams continue the three-game series Saturday at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. First pitch is slated for 1:35 p.m. PT.
The ticket office at Goss Stadium will open two hours prior to first pitch. Student tickets will be distributed at Gate 6 starting two hours before first pitch.
Catch the game live on the Beaver Sports Network. Fans in the Portland area should note that the game will air on KEX 1190 AM due to a conflict with the Portland Trail Blazers.
