Glassco Homers Twice, Beavers Clinch Series Over Cal Poly With 11-6 Win

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Bryson Glassco hit a pair of home runs and Paul Vazquez went deep for the sixth time to lead No. 7 Oregon State to an 11-6 win over Cal Poly Saturday afternoon in front of 3,952 fans at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

AJ Singer doubled twice and drove in three runs to help guide Oregon State (27-7) to the series victory. Six of the nine Beaver hits on the afternoon went for extra bases, with Glassco providing fireworks in back-to-back innings.

The first-year Beaver launched a 3-2 pitch over the fence in left in the fourth, driving in two and putting Oregon State ahead for good. He followed that with a three-run blast in the fifth, his fifth home run of the season, to push the Oregon State lead to 8-3.

Then came lightning, requiring another delay, this one that went 40 minutes. Cal Poly (18-15) put three runs on the board when the game resumed in the sixth, but Singer drove in two on a double in the Beavers' half to extend the OSU lead to 10-6. A wild pitch in the eighth gave the Beavers their final run of the day.

Ethan Kleinschmit won his sixth consecutive start, departing after 5 1/3 innings. He allowed six hits and five runs with eight strikeouts before giving way to Tanner Douglas.

The Mustangs jumped ahead early, plating a trio of runs in the third. Vazquez got the Beavers on the board with a second-inning home run on the first pitch he saw from starter Carson Turnquist.

Turnquist took the loss, dropping to 2-2. He gave up four runs on four hits in 3 1/3 innings.

The teams conclude the three-game series Sunday with a 1:05 p.m. PT first pitch at Goss Stadium.
