Beavers Win 10th Straight Over Stanford
May 17, 2015 | Baseball
STANFORD, Calif. – KJ Harrison and Elliott Cary drove in three runs apiece and Drew Rasmussen scattered three hits and two runs in six innings to help guide the 19th-ranked Oregon State baseball team to a 7-5 win over Stanford Saturday night at Sunken Diamond.
Cary singled home two runs in the third, and grounded out in the fifth to finish with his third multi-RBI game of the season. The three RBI marks a season-best for the freshman.
Harrison, meanwhile, drove in a solo run in the first, then two more in the eighth to effectively drive a nail into the Beavers' victory. He ended the night with three hits to pace the Beavers. It marked his 20th multi-hit effort of the night and extended his hit streak to five games.
Harrison is 10-for-22 with 10 RBI during the hit streak.
Jeff Hendrix and Logan Ice also had two hits for the Beavers, who recorded 10 overall.
Rasmussen, meanwhile, retired the first eight batters he faced and tossed 105 pitches over six innings. The freshman walked four but also struck out five. He earned the win and improved to 6-3 on the year.
The Beavers opened the game just as they had Friday; Christian Donahue singled, and made it to third where Harrison doubled down the left field line to give OSU the early 1-0 lead.
OSU (35-14-1 overall, 16-9-1 Pac-12 Conference) pushed the lead to 3-1 when Cary singled in two in the third, and, after Stanford made it 3-1 in the bottom half of the inning, the Beavers extended the lead to 5-1 in the fifth. A Stanford error and groundout by Cary netted OSU its two runs in the frame.
Stanford (22-30, 7-19) scored a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to pull to within three. Harrison, however, extended OSU's lead when he went the other way on a pitch by Stanford reliever Gabe Cramer.
That two-run single by Harrison proved to be key as the Cardinal scored three runs in the bottom half of the eighth off OSU relievers Sam Tweedt and Luke Heimlich. Mitch Hickey came on in the ninth and recorded his 10th save of the season, and seventh in conference action.
Marc Brakeman started for Stanford and allowed eight hits and five runs over six innings. He took the loss to drop to 1-4 on the year.
The win sent the Beavers to their 10th consecutive victory over the Cardinal. It's also the team's ninth straight win at Sunken Diamond dating back to the 2009 season.
OSU and Stanford conclude the series Sunday afternoon with a 1:05 p.m. PT first pitch at Sunken Diamond.
The game will be live on the Pac-12 Networks. It will also be carried over the airwaves on the Beaver Sports Radio Network and the TuneIn application.
