CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 24^th-ranked Oregon State baseball team dropped a 7-2 decision to Cal Poly Saturday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

Michael Howard and KJ Harrison drove in solo runs in both the sixth and seventh innings but could not overcome a 3-0 deficit. Harrison's infield single in the seventh made it 3-2 in favor of the Mustangs but Zack Zehner hit a two-run home run in the top of the eighth to ice the game for Cal Poly (9-14 overall)

Drew Rasmussen started for the Beavers (20-7) and went 7 1/3 innings in his fifth start. The freshman was tagged with the loss after allowing six hits and four runs. He dropped to 3-1 on the year.

The win went to Cal Poly starter Kyle Smith, who improved to 2-4 in 2015. He allowed six hits and a run in five innings of work.

Cal Poly scored a solo run in the first, then added two more in the sixth for a 3-0 lead. The Beavers chipped away at the lead with a single by Howard in the sixth and an infield single by Harrison that barely beat the throw from short.

Harrison and Joe Gillette had two hits apiece in the loss.

Oregon State and Cal Poly complete the series Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium. First pitch is slated for 1:05 p.m. PT.
