March 11, 2015 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Christian Donahue and Trever Morrison each posted three hits and Michael Howard drove in three runs as Oregon State won its 10 consecutive game with a 12-3 victory over Portland Tuesday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
The win pushed the Beavers to 14-3 on the year, and marked the 900th victory in head coach Pat Casey's career. He's in his 21st year at Oregon State and 28th overall after seven seasons at George Fox.
On Tuesday, the Beavers rapped out 13 hits against three Portland (4-16 overall) pitchers, and took a 6-0 lead after three innings.
Oregon State, which saw its consecutive home run streak snapped at 11 games, got doubles from KJ Harrison and Kyle Nobach and sacrifice flies from Harrison, Howard, Gabe Clark and Logan Ice in the win.
Sam Tweedt made his second start of the year – both coming against Portland – and allowed four hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings. The freshman walked two and struck out six to earn the win and improve to 3-0 this season.
In two appearances against the Pilots, Tweedt is 2-0 and has struck out 12 in 11 1/3 innings while allowing eight hits and four runs.
Already up 1-0 after scoring a solo run in the first, the Beavers tacked on five more to take a commanding 6-0 lead after the third. Howard drove in two runs in the inning, while Harrison and Nobach each had an RBI.
Portland answered with a two-run home from Turner Gill in the fourth, but OSU out-scored the Pilots, 6-1, the rest of the way.
Jordan Wilcox started and took the loss for Portland after allowing nine hits and eight runs in 3 2/3 innings. He dropped to 1-2 on the year.
Luke Heimlich and John Pomeroy each pitched in relief of Tweedt and combined to go 3 2/3 innings, walking just one. Pomeroy struck out the side in the ninth to end the game.
