Beavers Win Orange & Black Battle
February 19, 2015 | Baseball
SURPRISE, Ariz. – Logan Ice and Michael Gretler each drove in two runs as the Oregon State baseball team defeated No. 19 Oklahoma State, 5-3, Thursday afternoon at Surprise Stadium.
KJ Harrison added three hits – his fourth multi-hit game of the season – as the Beavers snapped a two-game losing streak with a defeat of the Cowboys. The game marked the fifth straight for Oregon State in Arizona as the Beavers are scheduled for three more before leaving Sunday.
Gretler, who got the start at third base, singled home runs in the second and third innings. He went 2-for-3 on the day.
Ice, meanwhile, came up one hit shy of tying his career-high with a 3-for-5 effort in the win. He singled home a run in the third and doubled home another in the fifth. He singled again in the seventh before being retired on a fielder's choice.
The first six batters in the Oregon State lineup, which also consisted of Jeff Hendrix, Joey Jansen, Billy King and Caleb Hamilton, combined to go 10-for-28 with four runs scored and three RBI.
Trever Morrison also had two hits in the win for his first multi-hit effort of the season.
Andrew Moore started for the Beavers (3-2 overall) and recorded his second quality start of the season. The junior picked up the win after scattering seven hits and three runs over 6 1/3 innings.
Moore was relieved by Drew Rasmussen, who worked 1 2/3 innings, allowing two hits with two strikeouts. Mitch Hickey earned his first career save with a perfect ninth inning, retiring all three batters he faced via strikeouts.
Oklahoma State (1-3) starter Tyler Nurdin took the loss to drop to 0-1 on the year. He allowed nine hits and five runs – three earned – in 4 1/3 innings.
Corey Hassel led the Cowboys with two hits.
