OSU Women's Crew Earns Half Dozen Runner Up Finishes in First Ever Oregon State Classic

Beavers finish third in Varsity 8+ grand finale, with five runner up finishes in the morning and another in the afternoon session
LOWELL, Ore. – The first ever Oregon State Classic is in the books, with the OSU women's crew earning a total of six second place finishes between the morning and afternoon sessions. Dexter Lake saw 13 races on Saturday, between host Oregon State, Syracuse, Stanford, San Diego and Washington.
The Beavers were runners up in the second heat of the Varsity 4+ (7:23.3), the second heat of the 2nd Varsity 8+ (6:51.7), and during the second heat of the Varsity 8+ (6:51.7). OSU also came in second to Washington State's 'A' boat in the Novice 8+, with a 7:06.2 time, and placed third in the 2nd Varsity 4+ (7:55.8).
During the afternoon session, OSU hung tough in the five boat races, placing second and third in the Novice 8+ race. The Beavers' Novice 'A' boat was second fastest in the event with an 8:06.5 time, while their Novice 'B' boat crossed the finished line in 8:19.8.
Oregon State's 2nd Varsity 8+ boat finished fourth (7:40.2) in its race with all five schools, before the grand finale, the Varsity 8+ race.
OSU would earn a third place finish in among the Varsity 8+'s, behind Stanford (7:15.0) and Washington State (7:20.1). The 'Beavs crossed the finish line at 7:23.6, putting a cap on the day's racing action and on the first ever Oregon State Classic.
The OSU women now have two weeks to rest and prepare for the Pac-12 Championships, which will be held Sunday, May 19 in Sacramento.
