Both Tyler Smith and Michael Conforto extended their hit streaks to nine games in the loss. Smith singled to right in the first and moved to third when Conforto doubled to left.
Jake Rodriguez, meanwhile, led the Beavers offensively with two hits. It was his seventh multi-hit effort of the season.
Dan Child made his eighth start of the season and worked six innings. He allowed nine hits and five runs - four of which were earned - to go along with two walks and four strikeouts. He took the loss to drop to 3-2 this season.

Arizona State scored four two-out runs in the third to take a 4-0 lead. James McDonald drove in two and Ruiz one during the frame.
The Sun Devils added to their lead when Ruiz hit a solo home run off Child in the fifth.
The Beavers (18-9, 6-4), however, rallied for two runs in the sixth. Both were unearned as an error on Drew Stankiewicz at third extended the inning.
