Corvallis, Ore. - In her first career start, redshirt freshman Tayla Woods (Corvallis, Ore.) recorded a double-double with 26 assists and 12 digs to lead the Oregon State volleyball team (3-2) to a sweep over CSU Bakersfield (0-4) on Sunday afternoon in the teams' first match of the Active Ankle Challenge.
"That was a good match to get under our belt," head coach Taras Liskevych said. "We gave everyone a chance to play, and great hitting by Dre [Shaw] and Arica [Nassar]. And we just won the serving-passing battle. We had eight aces, three misses and we sided out at 80 percent. You do that, you're going to be good."
Junior Camille Saxton (Balzac, Alberta) and freshman Arica Nassar (Menifee, Calif.) paced the Beaver offense with 10 kills each with senior Dre Shaw (Wailuku, Hawai'i) adding eight.
Sophomore Becky Defoe (Bend, Ore.) contributed to Woods' 12 digs with 12 of her own, while Nassar also led the team at the net with a match-high five blocks, including two solo.
The Beavers led through the entire match other than a small two-point Bakersfield lead in the third set, allowing Oregon State to play 13 throughout the match. Sophomore Niki Small (Ashland, Ore.) earned a pair of kills and three blocks with redshirt freshmen Allie Rogers (Eugene, Ore.) and Laura Schaudt (Philomath, Ore.) adding two and three kills, respectively.
The Roadrunners' Haleigh Haratyk posted a team-high nine kills, while Lauren Holderman had six digs.
Oregon State will take on Loyola Marymount next at 7:30 p.m. in the teams' second match of the Active Ankle Challenge.
