Marrs Named Freshman of the Year as WCC Announces Yearly Awards
December 01, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Alana Marrs has been named West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year as part of the conference's yearly awards, it was announced on Monday.
An award voted on by the conference's coaches, she becomes the third Beaver in program history to be named Freshman of the Year, joining Mary-Kate Marshall (2014) and Kylee McLaughlin (2017), and also earned First Team All-Conference and All-Conference Freshman team honors.
The Ellensburg, Wash., finished her tremendous freshman season with 220 kills (2.24/set) while hitting .361, also leading the team in solo blocks (28), block assists (76), and total blocks (104).
Her accolades for the year also include four All-WCC weekly awards and top 10 marks in the conference for hitting percentage (fourth) solo blocks (first), assisted blocks (ninth), total blocks (seventh) and blocks per set (eighth), while her hitting percentage also set a new program record by a freshman and ranks second-highest for any athlete in a single season ever.
Joining Marrs on the West Coast Conference's First Team is Lauren Rumel, who ranked third in the WCC for kills (383), kills per set (3.78), points per set (4.2) and fourth in total points (423). Named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15 after tallying 43 kills on 108 swings, a .306 clip, Monday's announcement marks the second-consecutive year that Rumel has earned a First Team All-Conference nod.
As part of the release, Annika Hester also earned her second-consecutive all-conference award, earning her place on the second team, having been a first team selection in 2024. Across 98 sets played in 2025, the Falmouth, Maine, native tallied 201 kills (2.57/set) and 81 blocks (0.83/set), and was named WCC Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 10 after a pair of double-doubles with 11 kills, 15 digs and five blocks at Saint Mary's and 13 kills, 13 digs and eight blocks against LMU.
Maëli Cormier's strong first season in Corvallis also landed her on the All-Freshman team, thanks to 266 kills (2.81/set) and 271 total points. She hit a season-high .478 in a sweep of UC San Diego on Sept. 5 and had a season and career high 20 kills in a reverse sweep at Saint Mary's on Nov. 6, hitting .326 to go with three blocks; Cormier finished her first year as a Beaver with double-digit kills in 13 matches.
Oregon State volleyball recently concluded its third regular season under the leadership of Head Coach Lindsey Behonick with a 19-9 record, which is the team's highest win total since posting 21 back in 2017. In fact, the 2025 season is just the fourth time that OSU has won 18 or more matches in the last 30 years, having previously reached that win total in 2017 (21-12, 7th Pac-12), 2014 (21-13, t-7th Pac-12) and 1996 (19-12, 7th Pac-12).
Finishing top three in the final regular season standings, it was just the second time ever that OSU has finished a season in the top five of the conference standings, and first in the top three, having placed fifth in the Pac-12 in 2001.
