LOWELL, Ore. -
The Oregon State women's rowing team came up short Saturday morning against No. 12 Washington State in the team's only home regatta of the season at Dexter Lake.
While all of the Beavers' crews fell to the 12th-ranked Cougars, a couple races were determined by the narrowest of margins.
Oregon State's Second Varsity 8 gave the Cougars all they could handle finishing less than a second behind as WSU covered the course in 6-minutes, 57.7-seconds to OSU's 6:58.5.
In the Novice 8 race, the Beavers again fell just short trailing the Cougars by less than a half-second at the finish line losing 7:04.41-7:04.85.
“It was a tough day for us in terms of results, but that doesn't tell the whole story about our performance,” head coach Emily Ford said. “There were several crews that raced their hearts out today – did everything they could – and came up short. I can't fault the team for its efforts. I just wish they could have tasted some of the reward in a win. Hats off to Washington State, they are looking very strong.”
The Beavers are back in action on May 15 when they head to the Pac-10 Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
