CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Jared Cunningham scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half and broke Gary Payton's sophomore steals record to lead Oregon State to an 87-80 win over Stanford at legendary Gill Coliseum on Thursday night.
Oregon State (10-16, 5-10 Pac-10) fell behind by scores of 25-12 and 27-14 in the first half, but battled back to tie the score 47-47 with 15:27 remaining on a three-pointer by Cunningham.
Cunningham finished with three steals to break Oregon State's sophomore steals record of 72 set by Payton in 1987-88. Cunningham now has 74 thefts on the season with three regular season games remaining.
Oregon State outscored Stanford (13-14, 6-10 Pac-10) 13-5 in the last 2:18 to end a four-game losing streak. The Beavers shot a season-high 61.5 percent (32-of-52) from the field and season-high 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from the three-point line to post their second-highest scoring game of the season and highest in Pac-10 contests.
Senior Calvin Haynes added 14 points to move into 17th on Oregon State's all-time scoring list with 1,215 points, passing Chris Stephens who had 1,214 points from 2003-06.
Roberto Nelson had 12 points and Ahmad Starks and Joe Burton each had 11 as five Oregon State players scored in double figures in a game for just the second time this season.
The lead was traded three times in the last five minutes before Cunningham's three-point play with 1:29 left put the Beavers ahead for good at 80-77. After a Stanford miss, Collier scored after grabbing an offensive rebound.
Cunningham and Haynes had dunks off Collier assists in the closing seconds to ice the game.
Jeremy Green had 24 points to lead the Cardinal, while Aaron Bright added 15 points and Anthony Brown had 12 points.
