Corvallis, Ore. - Senior Dre Shaw (Wailuku, Hawai'i), junior Camille Saxton (Balzac, Alberta) and freshman Arica Nassar (Menifee, Calif.) tallied 42 of the team's 53 kills as the Oregon State volleyball (16-15, 8-13 Pac-12) swept No. 13 Oregon (20-9, 13-8 Pac-12) on Tuesday evening in front of a crowd of 2,834 in Gill Coliseum.
Set scores were 25-18, 25-21, 25-19.
"Oregon is a great team," head coach Taras Liskevych said. "They've had a great year, but our backs are against the wall. For us to have any kind of chance to make the NCAA Tournament, we have to win. I've told them all year long that if we have more than three hitters show up in a match, we're going to be pretty good.
We really attacked the ball well. Camille [Saxton] and Dre [Shaw] hit lots of different shots, and Camille really hit well from the back row. Arica [Nassar] hit well also, and she's a tough person to stop, and Megan [McBride] had a great setting match."
Shaw hit .406, killing 19 balls and adding eight digs and two blocks, while Saxton earned 18 kills with only one error to hit .436 with eight digs. Nassar posted a .462 average with eight kills with a match-high tying three blocks.
The Beavers held the Ducks to a .194 hitting percentage, chalking up a .381 percentage, while outkilling Oregon 53-36. The Beavers led in every category except service aces, out digging the Ducks, 44-32.
Oregon State led the entire match, only allowing Oregon tie things up once in the first and three times in the third, while siding out 71 percent overall. Saxton was nearly unstoppable from anywhere on the court, scoring nine of kills in the second set alone.
The Ducks struggled to get into any kind of rhythm, siding out 56 percent and having to count 16 unforced errors.
Defensively, sophomore Becky Defoe (Bend, Ore.) dug a match-high 14 balls, while McBride also had three of the team's seven total blocks.
Oregon's Alaina Bergsma killed a team-high 14 balls to lead the Ducks.
Oregon State wraps up the regular season at No. 13 Oregon on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Matthew Knight Arena for the second part of the Civil War Series, presented by PacificSource Health Plans and Northwest Ford Dealers.
