OREGON STATE HEAD COACH Craig Robinson
On the margin of victory...
"I don't even think I can say the word "blowout." We haven't had a win like that in a conference game since I've been here. But this was special for a lot of reasons, and the main one was that if I can ever get a handle on how this team is going to perform, I can base it on how our practices are. This week was special with regards to practice. I say special because, all those guys wanted to come in early and then they all wanted to come in later in the day and work on extra things. They were intense practices, short, because we're in the second half of the season, but very intense. I couldn't be more proud of those guys. That game was won this week in practice."
On Omari Johnson's performance...
"We've been trying to find somebody at that spot. You can call it the four, we call it the forward on the left side of the court, who can give us something. Omari (Johnson) has had that in him all season. I think at the beginning of the season, I said that he was the guy who was practicing the best. It was nice to see him have some success. All these kids have been working hard to get better, and this is the environment, with the crowd like that in a Civil War game, to play a game like that was very meaningful."
On the turnovers...
"I said at halftime that this was what normally happens, so we have to prevent it from happening. I tried to outline to them that you can't foul them in the act of shooting, you can't turn the ball over and you can't have unforced errors. And for awhile we were doing exactly that, and they cut the lead down, I can't remember exactly what it was. But then we started to execute better and it led to good things."
On the balanced scoring in second half... "It's really good to see because we haven't had that. We haven't had an array of weapons and to have everyone chip in from an offensive standpoint like that was really good. It takes the pressure off of the offense. When you have that many different people scoring, that's how many people they have to keep an eye on. I really want to point out, Seth has struggled on offense, and he usually scores off his defense. It doesn't show up in the box score when he bothers guys into making mad plays, taking bad shots or making bad passes. To see him score a bit was a relief."
On the defensive effort...
"I don't know if they were flummoxed. I thought our staff and our players did a good job preparing for what they do. They changed up a couple of things, and I thought we made a few adjustments at halftime that worked. I don't think they were flummoxed, I think they were well prepared, but we just executed better than they did."
On the offensive execution...
"The execution was superb. Because the last time we had a game like this was against Stanford away, and that was against man to man. That's what made this even sweeter, doing it against the zone. In order to be successful against the zone defense, you have to hit some big shots. And Omari (Johnson) hit the big ones in the first half."
OREGON HEAD COACH ERNIE KENT
On the game...
"I thought (the Beavers) really played up for the game. What they did to us, is what we did last week. I thought they made it one dimensional, they live and die on the perimeter. I thought they did an excellent job of playing up in a rivalry game. That might be for a number of reasons, more vets or whatever, but they played up. They've been through a lot over here."
On his postgame speech to his players...
"We talked about the intensity of the rivalry, particularly for those young guys. Understanding that when it comes to a rivalry you throw records out the window, it's about playing hard, it's about having grit. I thought they handed in the game. We're learning that over here, especially for those young guys. For them to come over here and see this environment, we get an understanding of what it means to be in a rivalry and playing tough."
