OREGON STATE HEAD COACH Craig Robinson
Overall thoughts on the game…
“At this point in our development, to have an effort like that at home is just embarrassing. I am taking the full blame for that first half because we did not come out with enough energy and we were simply not prepared. The second half did not do enough to wipe away that embarrassment. If we were to win the game, I would still have the same response in regards of the kind of effort we had in the first half.”
On the message at halftime…
“The strategy and message is something that is not meant for public radio. It was the kind of message that that every time we come onto the court it is going to be a tryout and that is what you saw tonight. The tryout made it very clear to me of who wants to play or not. The message at halftime was the guys that want to play hard, will play. It does not matter to me what they are, whoever wants to put the effort in playing hard will play.”
On the effort in the second half…
“What I have to do is find out what motivates every single player on this team. I need to make all of them want to play just like that every minute that they are on the court. Unfortunately, the lack of effort in the first half, if we were to play the first half like we did the second half, we would have been up by 40.”
Overall about the team…
“We have proven that we are not as good as everyone thinks we are. This is going to be a challenge to rebuild not only our mental state, but our psychical state as well. Every single one of the freshman I was pleased with and Seth Tarver played his typical game, which was stellar. What you saw tonight was the guys that played on the court during the second half were the guys who put forth the effort and wanted to play.”
OREGON STATE FRESHMAN Joe Burton
On coming back from 24 down just to lose…
“It hurts when we come from so far back. It's good to come back from behind, but it's not good to be down by more than 20. We cannot get down early. We have got keep battling. We've got some new faces. Three freshmen playing right now and everyone is pretty much a sophomore for the coach and the system. We've got to regroup and bounce back.”
SACRAMENTO STATE HEAD COACH BRIAN KATZ
“Oregon State played tough. I haven't seen pressure like that in a long time. They are a very well coached operation. They showed a lot of heart to come back from 24 down. Our seniors played really well. They fought and played tough and we were able to hold on for the win.”
