CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Jimmie Haywood tied his career high with 20 points as Oregon State defeated San Diego 65-56 on Monday night.
Philip Ricci added 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Brian Jackson had 15 points for the Beavers (3-2), who were coming off an encouraging 1-2 showing in the Great Alaska Shootout.
Jason Blair had 17 points for San Diego (2-2). Andre Laws added 15.
Oregon State, which lost to Texas by 10 points last week and St. John's by three before beating host Alaska-Anchorage, led 22-14 early against the Toreros, with Haywood scoring 11. San Diego then responded with a 17-0 run.
A layup and free throw from Ricci and a 3-pointer from Haywood sparked a 10-0 run that put the Beavers ahead 32-31 at halftime.
Oregon State pulled away from a 39-36 lead with an 8-0 run to make it an 11-point game with 12{ minutes to go, and San Diego couldn't get closer than four the rest of the way.
The Beavers had a strong game in the post with Ricci and Jackson, and they outshot San Diego 49 percent to 36 percent.
