FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Oregon State women's basketball team dropped its fourth straight loss Tuesday evening, this time falling to Colorado State, 60-51, at Moby Arena.
Sissel Pierce registered her third consecutive double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Felicia Ragland led the Beavers with 16 points, but it took awhile for the Beavers to get those offensive numbers.
The Beavers (3-7) had trouble shooting and maintaining control of the ball in the first half, but they finished the game on a 14-0 run to overcome a 26-point deficit.
OSU connected on just six of 24 field goal attempts and committed 13 turnovers in the first half. It took OSU nearly three and a half minutes to score its first field goal, a basket by Cherrith Wiersma at the 16:36 mark. It was nearly three more minutes before Nicole Funn's shot was good for OSU's next field goal.
"Our shots just didn't fall at all," coach Judy Spoelstra said. "They got ahead 9-2 early and their crowd got into it. They have a lot of experience, and the momentum really went their way."
With OSU down by 14 with just over five minutes left in the half, Pierce hit a jumper to make it 27-15 with 5:12 left until the break. But after that, the Beaver offense shut down as the Rams went on a 9-0 run to finish out the half with a 36-15 lead.
The Rams (7-2) shot .500 in the first half, making 14 of 28 field goal attempts, including five of nine from the 3-point line. CSU also committed just four turnovers before the break.
But the Beavers came back stronger after the break and shot 42 percent (14-33) to finish the night with a .351 mark. Syesha Thomas hit a 3-pointer at the 6:33 mark to start that 14-0 run to close out the game.
OSU dominated on the boards, grabbing 50 rebounds to CSU's 29. Pierce led all players with 11, and three other Beavers had at least five.
The Beavers finished the game with 29 turnovers, while the Rams had just 16. CSU finished ahead of OSU in every statistical category except rebounds and blocks. OSU had three blocks, while the Rams had none.
OSU returns to Corvallis after a three-week road swing and will host Portland at 7 p.m. on December 29.
"We're excited to get back home and play in Gill on the 29th," Spoelstra said. "It's been awhile."
