PERSONAL: Born in Harbor City, CA...daughter of Reginald and Karen Funn...father is a dock worker and mother is a reservation supervisor...family includes one younger sister, Jamie, 14...she is in the College of Engineering and is a pre-engineering major...entered OSU with a 3.0 GPA...enjoys listening to music, riding jet skis and shopping...was on the honor roll at Palisades High School...teammate of Leilani Estavan at Palisades High School...also considered USC, Boston College, Arizona, Memphis, Florida A&M and Clemson...selected OSU because, “I loved the total package, the environment, my teammates and especially my coaching staff.”
OREGON STATE (2000-01) Sophomore: Nicole enjoyed a solid freshman season at OSU and displayed ability that should eventually, if not this coming season, make her one of the top players in the Pac-10 Conference…has tremendous athletic ability and is sound fundamentally in all phases of the game…finished her rookie season as OSU's seventh- leading scorer and tied for sixth in rebounding, all while averaging 13.9 minutes a game…will join Felicia Ragland this year as a wing player…both are similar and should give the Beavers' a pair of wings with great speed, leaping ability and the ability to score.
OREGON STATE (1999-00) Freshman: Nicole capped her freshman year at Oregon State by being named honorable mention on the Pac-10 Conference All-Freshman team...Nicole scored 6 points and had 2 rebounds in the season finale at Oregon (3/10)...produced a career-high 14 points, hitting 6-of-7 shots from the field, in a career high 26 minutes of action against USC (2/24) and came back with 6 points in 11 minutes of action in the Beavers' 72-52 upset victory over UCLA (2/26)...had 6 points and 7 rebounds on the trip to the Arizona schools (3/2) and 3/4)...played in all 30 games and scored in 26 games...had an outstanding performance off the bench at Washington State (2/19) with 7 points and 5 rebounds in 18 minutes of action...scored 4 points vs. California (2/10) and 5 vs. Stanford (2/12)...made a solid contribution in Pac-10 games...scored 3 points in the series with the Arizona schools at Corvallis...scored 8 points in 9 minutes while coming off the bench vs. Washington (1/22)...scored a total of 6 points on the road trip to Southern California...scored a career-high 10 points vs. Wichita State (12/10) in the Hawaii Invitational Tournament in addition to 7 rebounds in 18 minutes of play off the bench...produced a career-high 10 rebounds (5 points) in her next outing against Hawaii (12/11) in the same tournament...scored 125 points (4.2 average) and pulled down 77 rebounds, including 39 offensive boards...averaged 2.6 rebounds per game...played a total of 418 minutes, 13.9 average...struggled shooting during preseason, but improved steadily...wound up shooting .354 from the field, .235 from 3-point range and only .492 (31-63) from the free throw line...showed outstanding athleticism with great leaping ability...produced 25 assists, 10 blocked shots and 14 steals.
PALISADES CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL, Pacific Palisades, CA: Nicole was a four-year starter for Coach Kevin Hall at Palisades Charter High School...Palisades posted a 20-0 league record in 1998-99 to win the Coastal Conference crown, as well as the city championship and the championship of the CIF Division 1 Southern Section...team was runner-up for the state championship in 1999...tallied many honors as a prep, including first team all-city honors as a junior and senior; all-league honors four years in a row; Street & Smith Magazine preseason All-American honors; second team All-CIF; second team All-West Coast; Nike All-American; WBCA honorable mention All-American; first team all-state as a sophomore and junior and second team all-state as a senior; picked as one of top 30 senior players in the country by Reebok/WBCA and among the top 5 players in her position...earned two letters in track and field as a sophomore and junior...ran the 400 meters and posted the fastest time in San Bernardino County as a sophomore...finished fourth in the CIF finals and sixth in the state meet as a sophomore...top time was 53.38...in basketball, Nicole scored a career-high of 45 points twice...best overall game quadruple double of 31 points, 18 rebounds, 10 assists, 11 steals and 5 blocked shots...averaged 10.3 points a game as a freshman, 20.9 as a sophomore, 13.4 as a junior and 19.8 as a senior...averaged 12.4 rebounds as a freshman, 10.8 as a sophomore, 9.8 as a junior and 12.0 as a senior
