PERSONAL-- Born in Lynnwood, WA...daughter of Bart and Ilene
Wiersma...she has six brothers and sisters, twin sister Chassie, 19; Bobbie,
17; Addie, 16; Austin, 12; Lacey, 11; and Deidre, 9...Cherrith entered OSU
with a 3.4 GPA out of Crater High School...she is in the College of Health &
Human Performance and her major is exercise & sport science...she enjoys
camping, swimming, skiing and the outdoors.

OSU--(1999-00--Sophomore)-- Cherrith was the surprise of the OSU
squad last year, starting all 27 games at point guard as a true
freshman...she scored 104 points (3.9 average) as a freshman and had 62
assists and 32 steals...very smart player and makes very good
decisions...good defender and will be counted on for leadership this
year...she is a very sound fundamental player.
(1998-99--Freshman)-- Cherrith, along with her twin sister Chassie,
made a big impact as a Beaver...Cherrith was OSU's starting point guard as a
freshman and started all 27 games, leading OSU in minutes played with an
average of 25.5 minutes a game...Cherrith and Chassie were the only two OSU
players to start every game during the 1998-99 season...Cherrith started the
season as a walk-on and she was put on scholarship winter quarter...Cherrith
scored 104 points (3.9 ppg) and had 63 rebounds (2.3 average)...led team in
assists with 68 and was third in steals with 32...shot .343 from the field,
.286 from 3-point range and .750 from the foul line...in 18 Pac-10 games,
Cherrith averaged 3.4 points a game and shot only .309 from the field
overall, .265 from 3-point range and .714 from the foul line...scored in
double figures three times during season, including twice in a Pac-10 game,
scoring 10 vs. Stanford (1/2) in the Pac-10 opener and against Washington
State (1/15) at Gill Coliseum...enjoyed a strong preseason...opened the
season with 8 points vs. San Diego State (11/17) and 6 vs. Colorado State
(11/23)...scored 6 points, but contributed 8 assists against only 4
turnovers in 51 minutes of action in OSU's victories over Eastern Washington
and UC-Irvine while the Beavers were winning the Corvallis Gazette-Times
Classic title...she had two strong back-to-back games on OSU's road swing to
Montana (12/3) and Idaho State (12/5), scoring 18 points, with 9 assists and
4 steals...had a then season and career high 10 points at Idaho State
(12/5), all coming in the first five minutes of the second half when the
Beavers started the half on a 15-0 run to overcome a four-point half-time
deficit...she hit all four of her 3-point attempts on the December road
trip...Cherrith opened Pac-10 play with 10 points vs. Stanford, but was held
scoreless vs. California (1/4) and UCLA (1/8)...scored 4 points at USC
(1/10) before returning to Gill Coliseum for her best back-to-back
conference games of the season...Cherrith scored 10 points vs. WSU (1/15)
and had her best all-around game of the season against Washington (1/17),
scoring 9 points, hitting all three shots from the field and getting 4
steals and adding 4 assists while playing a season-high 36 minutes at point
guard against strong pressure... suffered her worst turnover game (8) at
Washington (2/11)...her previous turnover high was 5, against USC
(1/10)...scored 17 points in final eight games of the season...played much
stronger at Gill Coliseum than she did in Pac-10 road games...in nine Pac-10
home games, Cherrith scored 41 points (4.6 ppg), shot .389 from the field,
.368 from 3-point range and had 20 assists and 11 steals and only 23
turnovers...contrast her home performance to her road performance and
Cherrith scored only 20 points (2.2 ppg), while shooting .219 from the field
and .133 from 3-point range...she had only 15 assists, compared to 27
turnovers and 5 steals...produced season and career bests of 10 points vs.
Idaho State, Stanford and WSU; 7 rebounds vs. San Diego State; 6 assists vs.
San Diego State and Montana; 4 steals vs. Colorado State and Washington; 8
turnovers vs. Washington and 36 minutes played vs. Montana and Washington.
CRATER HIGH SCHOOL-- Cherrith, along with twin sister Chassie,
attended Arlington High School in Arlington, WA, as sophomores where they
helped lead Arlington to the Washington 2A state tournament...Cherrith was a
two-year starter for Coach David Heard at Crater...Cherrith earned honorable
mention all-state (Oregonian) honors as a senior and second-team
all-tournament following the Oregon Class 4A championship game, a game in
which the Comets lost 48-41 to Oregon City...in the championship game,
Cherrith scored 15 points and had 4 assists...she played in the State-Metro
All-Star series on June 19-20, 1998...as a senior, Cherrith averaged 7.4
points, 2.7 rebounds, shot .464 from the field overall and .500 (27-54) from
3-point range...she shot .670 from the foul line...she had 60 steals and 86
assists...Crater won the 1997 Southern Oregon Conference title en route to a
22-5 season and lost to Jesuit in the fourth-place game of the Class 4A
tournament...it was in that game that Cherrith tore right knee ligaments and
had off-season surgery...Cherrith shot .488 from the field overall as a
junior and .667 from the foul line...she averaged 7.3 points and 2.8
rebounds a game and had 71 steals and 74 assists.
