Thompson Hits Late Home Run in Loss to LMU
May 08, 2026 | Softball
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A three-run blast by Tristian Thompson wasn't enough as Oregon State softball fell to Loyola Marymount Friday at Smith Field.
Trailing 7-1 early in the seventh, Jaeya Butler and Lici Campbell hit back-to-back singles before Thompson stepped into the box and crushed a 1-0 pitch over the wall in center for her 13th home run on the year. Friday's long ball also puts the Waco, Texas, native at 41 RBI – both of which are single season career bests that rank among the WCC's top marks.
With Thompson's homer, OSU has also broken the program's single season team home run record, surpassing the 2003 squad with 62 across 52 games in 2026.
Butler finished the game 1-2 with two walks and an RBI, driving in a run with a bases loaded base on balls in the third inning. For the season, Oregon State's single season record holder for home runs and RBI is now hitting .385, which is fifth-highest in the West Coast Conference, while she also ranks in the top-five for runs scored, hits, doubles and slugging percentage.
Paige Bambarger hit 1-1 with two walks and a run scored as Madison Weir was 1-3; Oregon State finished with five hits in the contest.
In the circle, Kimberlee Aleman made her 24th appearance of the season, starting and throwing the game's first two innings while allowing six hits and three runs, striking out two. Haydn Milley then struck out two of the 13 batters she faced across 2.2 innings of work and Redondo Beach, Calif., native Bailey Murray allowed just two hits across 1.1 scoreless innings to finish the game.
LMU scored three in the third and four in the fifth to take a 7-4 result.
Oregon State softball has one more matchup with the Lions in this three-game series, facing off tomorrow at 11 a.m.
