Hayes’ Home Run Sends Beavers To Series Sweep Of Hawai’i
April 26, 2026 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. — Nyan Hayes crushed a two-run homer in his first look at a Hawai'i reliever, Eric Segura held the Rainbow Warriors to one run across six efficient innings and No. 6 Oregon State completed a three-game sweep of Hawai'i with a 3-1 win Sunday in front of 4,020 fans at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
The Beavers (33-9) needed only three hits to sweep the series, but two of them produced all three runs against a Rainbow Warriors staff that otherwise held the offense in check. Hawai'i (20-19) had taken a 1-0 lead in the second when Christian Hoffman doubled down the right-field line to score Jake Redding, and held that one-run margin until the seventh.
Segura matched zeros from there, finishing six innings of one-run, five-hit ball with three strikeouts and one walk. The junior right-hander did not factor in the decision but lowered his season ERA to 1.70 across 53.0 innings, the lowest figure among Oregon State's starters. Isaac Yeager (W, 5-1) followed with two scoreless, three-strikeout innings out of the bullpen, and Albert Roblez closed the ninth in order for his 12th save. Roblez's season ERA fell to 0.54.
The seventh inning turned the game. Paul Vazquez was hit by a pitch with one out, and Hawai'i went to the bullpen for right-hander Tsubasa Tomii. Hayes greeted the reliever by lifting a 1-0 pitch over the left-field wall — a 407-foot, two-run shot, his first home run of the season — to put Oregon State in front 2-1.
The Beavers added an insurance run an inning later. Bryson Glassco walked to lead off the eighth, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored when AJ Singer doubled to left-center field with two outs. The two-bagger gave Singer an RBI in all three games of the series.
Hawai'i starter Brody Martin-Grudzielanek was outstanding in his no-decision, allowing one run on one hit over 6 1/3 innings with two walks and four strikeouts. Tomii took the loss after going 1 2/3 innings. Redding paced Hawai'i 's six-hit attack at 2-for-3, and Hoffman finished 2-for-3 with the lone RBI.
Sunday capped a dominant weekend for Oregon State, which outscored Hawai'i 23-6 across the three-game set and held the visitors to a .176 batting average. The Oregon State pitching staff combined for a 1.67 ERA over 27 innings while the bullpen worked 9 1/3 scoreless frames across the series. Tyler Inge went 6-for-10 (.600) with three RBI out of the bottom of the order, while Singer drove in a run in each game.
Oregon State continues its homestand Tuesday when the Beavers host UTRGV for the first of two in a midweek series. First pitch is slated for 5:35 p.m. PT.
