Beavers Win Pair of Races at Big Ten Invite
April 19, 2026 | Women's Rowing
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Oregon State's first and second varsity four each won a race at the 2026 Big Ten Invite, a two-day regatta hosted at Lake Natoma Saturday and Sunday.
"It was a good weekend of racing that provided significant competitive challenges and opportunities. The team, all five boats, stepped confidently into the environment and raced well," Director of Rowing Michael Eichler said. "We had the opportunity to be in tight races and took advantage, learning as much as possible.
"We had strong and consistent results that helped to propel the Oregon State name into the national conversation."
OSU competed in the first four races of the entire regatta, facing off against Washington, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Sacramento State, placing second in each of the 2V4, 1V4, 2V8 and 1V8. Despite the second-place finish, the Beavs were closer to first place than third in three out of the four boats and came within three seconds of first place Washington in the 1V4.
Ending the morning with second place finish in the third varsity four, the 3V4 placed fourth to led off the afternoon session.
Soon after, the Beavers raced four-straight against Stanford, Rutgers, Indiana and Iowa, finishing third behind the Cardinal and Scarlet Knights in the first and second four and first and second eight.
Sunday racing got off to a quick start as both fours were victorious in their final races of the weekend, the 2V4 winning with a 7:25.234 and four second margin of victory, while the 1V4 had a five second margin of victory thanks to a 7:16.757 against Indiana, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Michigan State.
Both of the Beavers' eight boats finished second, the 2V8 coming in approximately half a second behind Indiana and the first varsity eight rowing all 2,000 meters in 6:29.253, crossing the finish line behind Ohio State but ahead of Indiana.
The third varsity four fought its way to a second-place finish in the final race, completing the course some six seconds behind Ohio State and 19 ahead of third place Michigan State.
Beaver women's rowing returns to action May 2 at Dexter Reservoir, hosting Washington State.
