Beavers Down Redhawks With Overwhelming Defense
January 10, 2026 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State's defense smothered Seattle U in a dominant 68-38 victory Friday afternoon at Gill Coliseum.
Â
The Beavers (13-5, 5-0 WCC) extended their winning streak to seven games while limiting Seattle U to just 23 percent shooting from the floor - Oregon State's stingiest defensive performance since allowing 38 points to Southern on Dec. 1, 2022.
Â
Kennedie Shuler posted 18 points and recorded a career-high seven steals while dishing out six assists and grabbing seven rebounds. Shuler is the first Beav to record at least 10-5-5-5 since Earlysia Marchbanks had 16 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and eight steals against Colorado in 2012.
Â
Jenna Villa paced OSU with 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Tiara Bolden added 12 points as the Beavers shot 41 percent from the floor.
Â
Oregon State dominated the paint, outscoring the Redhawks 40-4 in the lane. Néné Sow controlled the interior with 10 rebounds - her fourth game with 10 or more boards this season - while contributing four points and deterring shot after shot with her length and positioning. Lara Alonso-Basurto grabbed 10 boards in just 14 minutes.
Â
The Beavers seized control early, building a 22-14 lead after the first quarter. Oregon State maintained the advantage at 35-27 at halftime before clamping down defensively in the second half. OSU held Seattle U to just 13 percent shooting in the third quarter and outscored the Redhawks 33-11 over the final 20 minutes.
Â
Mackenzie Shivers provided the late highlights, hitting her first shot in Division I basketball on a mid-range pullup after missing last season with a knee injury. Shivers scored a career-high six points and was a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line.
Â
The 11 points allowed in the second half and four in the final quarter were the fewest allowed by the Beavs in at least two years. The previous best for 2025-26 was 14 in a half vs. Corban and 7 in a quarter vs. LBSU.
Â
The Beavers also dominated the fast break, outscoring Seattle U 21-2 in transition while forcing 18 turnovers that led to 20 points. OSU's defense limited the Redhawks to 23.3 percent shooting from the floor, the best defensive mark since last season's WCC Championship game.
Â
The Beavs hit the road next week to take on LMU and Pepperdine in the LA area. Thursday's matchup with the Lions tips at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
