Oregon State Downed By UC Irvine In Series Opener

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Easton Talt and AJ Singer each recorded a pair of hits but 11th-ranked Oregon State was shut out by No. 12 UC Irvine, 12-0, in the first of a three-game series Friday night in front of 4,012 at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Talt doubled in the third, singled in the fifth and walked in the first to reach base three times. Singer also reached base three times, walking in the third and singling in the fifth and seventh innings.
Gavin Turley, meanwhile, doubled in the fourth inning to extend his hit streak to 12 games, the longest of his career.
UC Irvine (23-5) plated two runs in the first on a two-out single by James Castagnola. The Anteaters added to the lead with a four-run sixth. Blake Penso homered in the eighth before UC Irvine added five more in the ninth.
Nelson Keljo started for the Beavers (20-7), working 1 1/3 innings before being relieved by Zach Kmatz. Keljo allowed two hits and two runs, taking the loss. He is 2-1 on the year.
UC Irvine starter Riley Kelly went 4 1/3 innings, holding the Beavers scoreless while scattering four hits and three walks with eight strikeouts. He did not figure in the decision as he did not go the required five innings. The win went to Ricky Ojeda, who handcuffed the Beavers over 4 2/3 innings. He is 6-0 on the year.

• Gavin Turley's 12-game hit streak is the second-longest by a Beaver this season, just two shy of Trent Caraway's over the first 14 games of the year.
• Turley's previous long hit streak was 10 games as a freshman in 2023.
• The crowd of 4,012 marked the 18th-largest in Goss Stadium's history. It's the third-highest against UC Irvine, following crowds of 4,224 and 4,134 in the 2024 NCAA Corvallis Regional.
• Easton Talt recorded his team-leading ninth multiple-hit game of the year.
• AJ Singer tallied his fifth multi-hit effort, with three coming over his last six games.
• The loss snapped Oregon State's 15-game home winning streak, which was the third-longest in the nation.
• The Beavers were shut out for the first time this season.
• Oregon State has lost two straight for just the second time this year.
