Oregon State’s Comeback Comes Up Just Short Versus Alabama
February 28, 2026 | Baseball
Down 8-5 entering the ninth, Oregon State (5-4) loaded the bases before an Easton Talt single brought in one. Cooper Vance then reached on an error and the Beavers appeared to tie the game on what would have been a Bryson Glassco sacrifice fly. However, the throw from right fielder Peyton Steele in right got Jacob Galloway on a bang-bang play at the plate to deny the OSU run. Adam Haight then drilled a shot to short, which was bobbled by Justin Lebron before getting a fielder's choice at second to end the game.
Haight and Josh Proctor each homered for the Beavers, each doing so for the first time in their collegiate careers. Proctor's sparked a four-run fifth inning, pulling OSU to within two after Alabama scored one in the first, three in the third and two in the second.
Talt doubled in his first run later in the fifth inning, then scored when Vance singled to center.
Haight made it a one-run game with a solo shot to left in the sixth.
The Crimson Tide (9-2) tacked on solo runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Talt went 3-for-5 to lead the OSU offense, which recorded a season-best 12 hits. Haight and Proctor had two hits apiece.
Ethan Kleinschmit started for the Beavers, allowing five hits and five runs in three innings. He dropped to 0-2 on the year.
Alabama's Matthew Heiberger picked up the win, his first of the year, after holding the Beavers to two hits and a run in 2 2/3 innings. Hagan Banks, despite getting into trouble in the ninth via three hits and two runs, got the save, his second.
The Beavers close out their trip to Frisco Sunday with a matchup versus Iowa. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. PT (11 a.m. in Texas) and the game can be heard on the Beaver Sports Network. A live stream will be available at watch.d1baseball.com.
