Beaver Questions With Josiah Lake II

Josiah Lake II is an upcoming sophomore with the Oregon State men's basketball team who hails from nearby Tualatin. Lake joined the Beavers as a walk-on last season, but quickly showed his value, appearing in 31 of Oregon State's 32 games.

Overall, Lake recorded 41 assists compared to just 14 turnovers in the 2023-24 season, and shot 52.7 percent from the floor. D

Lake recently participated in a Q&A with OSUBeavers.com. Here's what he had to say.

Do you remember the first time you stepped on the Oregon State campus and what it meant to you?
Yes, the first time I stepped on Oregon State Campus as a recruit felt unbelievable. The campus is beautiful and the people in Corvallis are amazing!

When did you know you wanted to be a student-athlete at the college level? What drew you to it?
Falling in love with the game of basketball at a very young age was what made me want to be a student-athlete at the highest level.

What's one thing you wish more people knew about basketball and what it takes to be competitive?
Team chemistry is the root to all great teams!

If you could change one rule about basketball, what would it be and why?
I would reduce the number of timeouts per game to keep the flow more continuous and exciting.

What does it mean to you to wear the Orange and Black?
Wearing orange and black means representing Oregon State University, showing pride and unity with all Beavers.

If you could pick any other sport to play, what would it be and why?
I would pick football. It was one of my favorite sports growing up and I still enjoy watching it.

What drives you to succeed?
The support from my family and loved ones!

What makes you want to be successful off the field? What drives your success in the classroom?
Education always comes first, I am grateful for this opportunity to attend a university like Oregon State. My goal is to be an entrepreneur when I'm done with basketball.

If you could have dinner with three athletes, dead or alive, who would they be?
Michael Jordan, Russell Westbrook, Lamar Jackson

Who did you look up to growing up? What made you look up to them?
I grew up looking up to my dad. Seeing all the hard work he puts in and how much he loved basketball inspired me at a young age.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
I see myself still involved with my sport. Something like coaching or being a trainer.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given? And who gave it to you?
My dad has always told me to be locked in and never give up.

What kind of mark do you want to leave from your time in Corvallis?
A positive influence to all kids, teachers, coaches and fans!

Hangout with family and friends, watch sports, play video games

What are your favorite topping(s) on a hot dog?
Ketchup and Mustard
