Bazzana Launches 19th Home Run, Beavers Lose To Golden Bears
April 20, 2024 | Baseball
BERKELEY, Calif. – Travis Bazzana hit his 19th home run of the season and drove in four runs but No. 5 Oregon State, which held a 7-3 lead, was unable to overcome a late California rally in an 8-7 loss to the Golden Bears on Saturday at Evans Diamond.
Bazzana hit a three-run home run in the fourth to put the Beavers up 3-2. He later walked with the bases loaded in the sixth, an inning that also saw Mason Guerra drive in a run on a sacrifice fly.
Dallas Macias gave the Beavers (30-8 overall, 10-6 Pac-12 Conference) a four-run lead with a two-run single in the seventh. The Golden Bears (23-14, 10-10), however, chipped away at the lead, scoring solo runs in the seventh and eighth.
That led to a three-run ninth for Cal, which won the game when Carson Crawford walked with the bases loaded on a 3-1 pitch from Noah Ferguson.
Brady Kasper had two hits to lead the Beavers; OSU finished with seven as a team.
Bridger Holmes took the loss, dropping to 2-3 on the year. He allowed one hit and three runs – all uneared – in one inning of work.
Robert Alvazian picked up the win for the Beavers, improving to 2-0 on the season. He did not allow a baserunner in 2 1/3 innings.
