Macias Homers Twice But Oregon State Edged In Finale At Cal
April 21, 2024 | Baseball
BERKELEY, Calif. – Dallas Macias hit two home runs and Eric Segura set a career-high with eight strikeouts but No. 5 Oregon State was unable to hold on to a late lead in a 4-3 loss to California Sunday at Evans Diamond.
Macias hit a solo blast over the right field fence to open the fourth, then followed that with a two-run shot in the sixth for his third hit of the day. His sixth home run of the season gave the Beavers a 3-2 lead that California overcame with two runs in the seventh.
Segura, meanwhile, posted his second quality start of the season, scattering two runs on seven hits and two walks in six innings of work. The righty's eight strikeouts surpassed his previous high of seven, equaled most recently on March 10 against CSUN.
Seth Gwynn's two-run home run in fourth was the lone blemish for Segura, who did not figure in the decision. Laif Palmer was charged with the loss, dropping to 1-2, after two hits and two runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Trey Newmann picked up the win after holding the Beavers to two runs and a hit in five innings of relief. He is now 2-4 on the year.
