CORVALLIS, Ore. – Sixteenth-ranked Oregon State closed its non-conference slate with a 26-9 victory over San Diego State on Saturday at Reser Stadium.

Â
Defensively, OSU held the Aztecs to 70 yards rushing – more than 100 below their season average -  aided by six sacks. Andrew Chatfield Jr. led the Beavs with two sacks wile Isaac Hodgins and Takari Hickle also contributed a solo sack.
Â
Oregon State got on the board first.Atticus Sappington knocked down the career-long 48-yard field goal with distance to spare. The field-goal was the only score in the first quarter as the two teams combined to chew up over 10 minutes of clock on the game's second and third drives.
Â
Sappington nailed his second field goal of the game – following an SDSU miss – to put the Beavs up 6-0 with 13:36 left in the second quarter.
Â
Left tackle Joshua Gray scored Oregon State's first touchdown, grabbing a backwards pass at the 14-yard-line and rumbling into the end zone. Prior to the TD, explosive plays put OSU in position to score. Uiagalelei found Jack Velling for 31 yards to open the drive before connecting with Rweha Munyagi Jr. for 35.
Â
SDSU closed the half with a field goal drive to get on the board before the break, but the Beavs responded with a touchdown to open the second. Once again, OSU got several chunk plays with passes to Velling and Bolden, followed by an 18-yard-run by Bolden on a reverse. Uiagalelei closed the drive with a one-yard touchdown run.
Â
The Aztecs closed the gap to 19-9 two drives later with a 57-yard touchdown drive before Anthony Gould and the Beavs put it away. The redshirt junior took a tunnel screen 75 yards, putting Oregon State back up three scores.
Â
The Beavers head to Pullman next week for a ranked-on-ranked showdown with no. 23 Washington State.
