Marotte's Big Day Moves Beavs to 6-0
December 02, 2023 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – AJ Marotte notched a new career high with 23 points to help the Beavers pick up a 76-52 victory over WKU on Saturday afternoon.
Marotte's 23 points came primarily via the three-pointer, which she made five of on 11 attempts. The junior also dished four assists on the day, part of a 22-assist effort from OSU as a team.
Raegan Beers joined Marotte with 20 points, the first time in just over a year that two Beavs scored 20 in the same game, adding 13 rebounds, three steals and three assists. The two were two of five Oregon State players with three-or-more assists.
After a crucial block by Talia von Oelhoffen early in the game, the Beavers couldn't be stopped. They finished the first quarter with a 15-4 run. Marotte was responsible for 11 points in the run against the Hilltoppers, accepting passes after von Oelhoffen collapsed the defense before putting away the opportunity.
Raegan Beers worked toward another double-double, claiming 10 off the board in just the first half. She finished off her 19th career double-double early in the third quarter.
The Beavers finished the first half up by 15 and the momentum stayed with the home side going into the second half. Von Oelhoffen lead the way with five assists in just the third quarter. The junior rounded out the game with a game-high seven assists, three rebounds, a steal and a block. The Beavers kept at least a 13-point lead for the rest of the game.
Kelsey Rees joined the double-digits club, finishing the game with 12 points, nine rebounds and two steals. A fourth-quarter swipe by the Utah transfer was crucial to solidifying the Beaver's 24-point lead.
The Beaver freshman continued to show up. Donovyn Hunter added a fifth start to her resume and dominated the front court to set up fellow Beavers. She claimed three assists, four rebounds and two makes from behind the arc. When Hunter found herself in foul trouble partway through the third quarter, Kennedie Shuler subbed in to continue the momentum moving forward. Both of Shuler's two rebounds were offensive and resulted in four second-chance points.
Lily Hansford had a strong all-around game finishing with two triples, four rebounds and three assists. On a night where her shot wasn't falling like usual, Timea Gardiner claimed six boards to go with one assist.
Up next, Oregon State welcomes Jackson State on Saturday, December 9 at 6 p.m.
