
Beavers Take Down Trojans In 2OT Marathon

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season after taking down Troy 81-80 in a double-overtime marathon Friday evening at Gill Coliseum.

Dexter Akanno played over 48 minutes in the game, scoring 18 points. Jordan Pole finished with 14 points, including a number of big buckets in the extra periods.

Tyler Bilodeau recorded his first career double-double, going for 18 points and 12 rebounds despite fouling out late in regulation. Christian Wright had the best offensive outing of his time as a Beaver, as he tallied 14 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the floor.

Oregon State shot 42.4 percent as a team in the contest, compared to 33.8 percent for Troy. Thomas Ndong finished with six points and eight rebounds.

The Oregon State defense locked in early, as the Beavers took a 4-2 lead into the game's first media timeout. The Beavers extended the lead to 11 with 12 minutes to go in the half, but the Trojans battled back, using a 10-0 run to take a 27-24 lead.

The Beavers bounced back to retake the lead on an Akanno layup in transition. Oregon State and Troy headed to the break level at 32.

Oregon State scored 10 unanswered points to retake the advantage early in the second half, but once again Troy responded as the teams went back-and-forth. The Beavers led by a point with eight minutes to go, but Troy led 54-53 heading into the game's final media break.

The Beavers used a 6-0 run to take a five point lead with 90 seconds to go. OSU led by three with six seconds on the clock, but the Trojans sunk a triple as the clock expired to force overtime.

OSU scored the first four points of the extra period, but Troy led by two with 46 seconds on the clock. Pope knocked down a jumper with eight seconds remaining to force a second overtime.

It was once again Pope in the closing seconds of the second overtime, as his three-point play with six seconds to go gave the Beavers the win.

Oregon State will wrap up its three-game homestand Tuesday when Appalachian State visits Gill Coliseum.
