
Beavers Take Down Appalachian State

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's basketball team improved to 3-0 with an 81-71 overtime victory over Appalachian State Tuesday evening at Gill Coliseum.
The Beavers played extra basketball for the second-straight game, after participating in a double-overtime affair Friday afternoon against Troy.
Jordan Pope set a career-high with 25 points, knocking down six 3-pointers to go with seven rebounds and five assists. Tyler Bilodeau finished one rebound shy of his second-straight double-double, as he finished with 16 points and nine boards.
Dexter Akanno had 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while KC Ibekwe came up with 10 points and eight boards – including a number of big shots down the stretch. Christian Wright scored five of his eight points at the free throw stripe.
Jordan Pope was rolling early on, as he scored the first nine Oregon State points of the contest to send the Beavers to the first media timeout in front 9-5. The Mountaineers battled back to take a 17-15 lead.
The Beavers took a nine-point advantage with three minutes to go before the intermission and headed to the break leading 43-32. Oregon State knocked down 10 3-pointers in the opening 20 minutes. Pope ended the frame 6-for-6 from the floor and 4-for-4 from beyond the arc.
Appalachian State used a 9-0 run early in the second half to get back within two. The Mountaineers retook the lead with nine minutes remaining in the contest.
The Oregon State defense clamped down, as the Beavers went in front by six with 4:30 on the clock. App State cut the lead to two with two-and-a-half minutes to go and tied things up with 90 seconds left. The Mountaineers scored at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.
The Beavers scored the first seven points of the extra period. Oregon State led by 10 with two minutes to go in overtime, and held on from there to take the win.
Oregon State will hit the road this weekend as they head to Sioux Falls, S.D. to take on Nebraska Saturday at the Sanford Pentagon.
