Beavers Take Down Victoria

VICTORIA, British Columbia – The Oregon State men's basketball team defeated defending Canada West Conference champions University of Victoria 104-70 Thursday evening in Victoria, B.C.

The Beavers shot 55.2 percent from the floor in the game, including a blistering 80 percent in the fourth quarter. Chris Johnson led the Beavers with 24 points, four rebounds and four assists. Daniel Freitag recorded 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Josiah Lake II had 12 points and seven rebounds, while Legend Smiley finished with 11 points off the bench. Xavion Staton rounded out five Beavers in double-figures with 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting.

As a team, Oregon State out-rebounded the Vikings 45-29, as it moved to 2-0 on its summer tour of Canada.

Victoria jumped out to an early lead, but Oregon State answered with 16 unanswered points. The Beavers ended the first quarter leading 19-11. Oregon State took a 40-35 edge into the intermission.

The two sides went back-and-forth in the third period, with Oregon State using a late surge to take a 71-57 advantage into the closing frame. The Beavers out-scored the Vikings 33-13 in the fourth to claim the win by 34.

Oregon State will wrap up action in Canada on Saturday with a rematch against Victoria.
