Beavers Prepped For Annual Joe Wells Dual at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Oregon State wrestling is back in action this weekend as it travels to Ann Arbor, Mich. to grapple the No. 22-ranked Michigan Wolverines on Sunday afternoon.
You can watch all the action on the Big Ten Network and live stats will be provided through TrackWrestling. The match is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. PT inside Michigan's Cliff Keen Arena.
The Beavers currently hold a 2-1 dual meet record, with the most recent being a 32-3 loss at No. 2 Nebraska on Dec. 10. This is the second Big Ten dual for OSU this season before the team begins Pac-12 play on Jan. 10 against Northern Colorado. Â

Redshirt Junior Devan Turner owns a 4-0 dual record with his most recent win coming at Nebraska as he defeated No. 10 Ridge Lovett by decision, 6-2. Turner currently has a 16-7 record on the season and is ranked No. 29 by TrackWrestling.

At 125 pounds, Brandon Kaylor has been a bright spot in dual meets for the Beavers. The sophomore owns a 3-0 record with two major decisions, two pins and two technical falls.Â

The dual will represent the fifth annual Joe Wells Classic. Wells, who coached at Michigan from 1979-92, served as the Beavers' head coach from 1992 until his retirement in 2006. Wells passed away on April 16, 2015, after a brief battle with cancer

The Beavers placed three grapplers at the podium to close out the 2020 Southern Scuffle on Jan. 1-2. Devan Turner (Sixth, 133), Hunter Willits (Sixth, 157) and Colt Doyle (Eighth, 184) each notched the top finishes for Oregon State.Â

Michigan, ranked No. 22 in the NWCA Coaches Poll, is 1-1 in duals so far this season. The Wolverines had a pair of individual place winners and five total point scorers at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational (Dec. 6-7), notably sophomore Mason Parris, who captured the heavyweight title.
Michigan owns a 10-1 advantage in the all-time series against Oregon State, claiming each of the last four meetings, including a 33-8 decision last year in Corvallis.
