Beavers Open Conference Action at ASU

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State wrestling (4-1) is back on the mat this Friday, Jan. 17 for its first conference dual of the season when they travel to Tempe, Ariz. to face No. 6 Arizona State (8-1). The match can be viewed on ASU's Live Stream and can also be followed on TrackWrestling beginning at 6 p.m PT.Â
The Beavers currently hold a 4-1 dual meet record with their most recent win coming against Northern Colorado in a 21-12 victory in the team's home opener.  Â

A positive showing from the Beavers helped three individual grapplers collect wins over ranked opponents including 133-pound Devan Turner. The redshirt junior won his bout over No. 17 Moscha Schwartz and improved to 17-7 with a 5-0 dual mark heading into Friday's match.

Grant Willits is currently 13-7 with a 4-1 mark in duals while Colt Doyle is coming off of a ranked win against Northern Colorado.Â

The Beavers moved into Win Magazine's team rankings at No. 25 in duals. Oregon State is currently 4-1 with wins over Simon Fraser, George Mason, Michigan and Northern Colorado heading into Friday.Â

OSU boasts a talented 133-pounder in Devan Turner who is ranked as high as No. 15 in the latest FloWrestling rankings. WinMagazine slots Turner at No. 17 while TrackWrestling improves him to No. 18. After missing the Intermat rankings last week, Turner is back at No. 20. Rounding out the rankings for Turner is a No. 19 selection on the Open Mat's respective rankings.

141-pound Grant Willits remains in the rankings after consistent performances over the last few weeks with a 13-7 record. Willits sits at No. 29 in the Open Mat and No. 32 in TrackWrestling's rankings.

Colt Doyle recently broke into the rankings and is No. 30 (The Open Mat) and No. 32 (TrackWrestling). Doyle previously defeated No. 28 Alan Clothier on Jan. 10.

The Beavers collected a 21-12 victory against Northern Colorado in their home-opener inside Gill Coliseum. Three Beavers won their bouts against ranked opponents and the team won seven of ten bouts on the night. After the match was tied 12-12 with three bouts to go, the Beavers ended the match with three consecutive victories to seal up their fourth dual win of the season.Â

The Sun Devils (8-1) hold a 5-0 dual record and are currently ranked No. 6 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA). ASU has collected wins over No. 23 Purdue, No. 20 Virginia and also a slim 19-18 victory over No. 1 Penn State. The Sun Devils boast a talented roster including returning All-Americans Josh Hall, Zahid Valencia and Tanner Hall.Â
Last time out, Arizona State went 3-0 in the Sun Devil Duals at Chase Field by defeating Harvard, Campbell and No. 11 Iowa State on Jan. 11.Â
