February 16, 2019 | Softball
Los Angeles, Calif. – Oregon State's softball program splits its games on day two of the Stacy Winsberg Tournament in Los Angeles capturing a 3-0 win over Cal Poly and falling to Ole Miss, 2-0.
GAME ONE vs CAL POLY
The Beavers struck first against Cal Poly as Jessica Garcia singled on the left field line. She then stole her 40th career base to be in scoring position as Maia Rader hits a RBI triple into center field. Freshman Ashton Phillips joined the party with a RBI single in her first career at bat to give OSU a 2-0 lead after two innings.
Oregon State would put runners in scoring position in the bottom of the third and fourth innings but left them stranded as nothing developed.
Hammoude added her third homerun of the weekend to extend the Beavers' lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
OSU's defense worked hard throughout the entire game forcing Cal Poly to leave runners stranded on multiple occasions. Junior Nerissa Eason recorded six strikeouts from the circle to earn her second win of the season.
With the 3-0 win over Cal Poly, Oregon State tied the 2003 8-0 season start for best start in program history.
GAME TWO vs MISSISSIPPI
The Landsharks struck early with a single that turned into extra bases on a misread throw. Ole Miss would put one run on the board before sophomore Mariah Mazon would strike out two batters to end the first inning.
Oregon State would make advances to tie things up in the top of the second but left two stranded.
Ole Miss scored again in the bottom of the third to extend its lead to 2-0. Neither team would score after the third.
Mazon struck out six batters in the first three innings before senior Meehra Nelson would come in during the fourth inning and finish with four strikeouts.
