Beavers Drop Weekend Finale in Extra Innings

Long Beach, Calif. – Oregon State softball drops its Stacy Winsberg Tournament finale to Long Beach State, 6-4, in extra innings and the rain.
The Beavers started off strong in the top of the first inning as Love Lopez was walked. Sophomore Missy Nunes reached first on an error to bring Frankie Hammoude to the plate. Hammoude reached on a fielder's choice that advanced Lopez to third but got Nunes out at second. Freshman Bailey McLaughlin reached first on an error that scored Lopez.
Long Beach State tied things up at one a piece in the bottom of the first.
Things stayed stagnant until the top of the fifth when sophomore Camryn Ybarra would be walked to start off the inning. Maia Rader would reach on a field's choice that put Ybarra out at second. Senior Shelby Weeks hit a single through the right side advancing Rader.
Lopez would hit a fielder's choice that advanced Rader to third but caught Weeks at second. Nunes stepped up and dropped a single into shallow center field providing a huge RBI as Rader scores. Hammoude stepped up and hit a two-run RBI single to left field to extend OSU's lead, 4-1.
Long Beach State tacked on two runs of its own in the bottom of the sixth before Oregon State's defense would limit the damage and force one to be left on base.
LBSU tied things in the bottom of the seventh to push the game to extra innings.
Oregon State would load the bases in the top of the eighth but didn't capitalize on things before three outs.
Long Beach State finished the game hitting a two-runner homer.
Sophomore Mariah Mazon started in the circle for the Beavers and struck out three batters in five innings. Meehra Nelson pitched the remaining two innings.
Oregon State returns to action next Friday at the Libby Matson Tournament in Stockton, Calif. to face Nevada and Pacific.
