Oregon State opens defense of its 2018 National Championship when taking on New Mexico Friday in Surprise, Ariz. First pitch at Surprise Stadium is slated for 12 p.m. PT (1 p.m. in Arizona).

Last Season
Oregon State won the program's third National Championship in 2018 after taking two-of-three over Arkansas in the College World Series finals. Kevin Abel tossed a complete-game shutout and Adley Rutschman tallied three hits to propel the Beavers to a 5-0 win in the final game. OSU finished the season 55-12-1, including a 20-9-1 mark in Pac-12 Conference play.
Opening Day
Oregon State is 79-30 all-time in season openers. The Beavers are looking to stretch their winning streak to 10 games on opening day.
Against New Mexico
Oregon State is opening the season against New Mexico for the second consecutive year, defeating the Lobos, 5-2, in 2018. It's the first time since 1999 and 2000 that OSU has opened back-to-back years against the same team. The Beavers defeated Kansas State, 13-6, in 1999, and lost to the Wildcats, 7-6, the following year.
Rutschman On A Streak
Adley Rutschman, the Most Outstanding Player at the College World Series, is riding a 12-game hit streak into the 2019 season opener. He is 25-for-48 (.521) with six doubles, three home runs and 20 RBI during the streak.Â

Oregon State was the last Pac-12 team standing in 2018, so it should be fitting that the Beavers will be one of the first to see action in 2019. The Beavers' 12 p.m. PT start matches Oregon's first pitch against Texas Tech in Lubbock.
